Post-Game Talk: Literally shooting yourself in the foot

He was swimming on the ice and let the pass go past him and because he was swimming earlier he was late to the crease and unable to push any attacker out.
I mean you're just wrong on that play. He completely took away the shot and delayed the pass that it didn't hit the other guy on the 2 on 1. It went straight through to the boards and then Skinner dropped a shot from the far boards on a platter for Roy to tap in. There is absolutely zero chance you're criticizing how he played that 2 on 1 where they didn't even get a shot attempt out of it.

Yep. A shot from Smith from 20 feet out who is heading towards the boards. That is a low danger shot that every goalie should save. You know that right? Smith isn’t Austin Matthews
He already came out and committed to the shot in the slot, and Smith took it toward the side of the net. At that point, Skinner pretty much had to follow him.

I'm sure a guy with better lateral movement would have played it better. But 9 times out of 10 that puck isn't going in. Draisaitl's deflection was just...unfortunate.

No. He did not have to follow him wtf? All he had to do was stay in position..,

I've been one of his biggest critics on this board. All I say is that he did enough on the last goal to get the game to OT, had it not been for Draisaitl deflecting the puck. Simple as that. I didn't even say he played it textbook or any nonsense like that. He just...did enough. But like I said, he cost the team the game in general.

Fair enough, I disagree he did enough and that is where we can leave it. Also I am fine if you like Skinner or not, I am frustrated to hell with the guy and his lack of personal accountability when he does play poorly, he doesnt seem to me to want to do that. Perhaps its his goalie coach giving him the not my fault mindset but at some point if Skinner wants to improve he has to look inward.

But he has also been put into an impossible situation as he was supposed to be a backup whose thrust into the starters role because of a Grade A Giant mistake Ken Holland made on Campbell and Bowman doubling down on the status quo in net.

Anyway no harm no foul here, have a good one.

Or a great shot that hits iron. Or another good shot that barely misses.
We’re giving credit for posts and ‘bare misses’ now? Please. McDavid set Draisaitl up with a pass every player on this team puts in the net 10 times out of 10. Draisaitl didn’t bear down and hit the crossbar. In a game of this magnitude it’s a terrible play. If Connor Brown (with less than half of Draisaitl’s talent) missed that shot, you’d already have five posts about it.

He had already dropped almost as soon as Smith touched the puck. If he didn't follow him, Smith would have had a wide open net. The mistake was Skinner committing too much in the first place, which is what he always does.

Only thing he's not committed to is improving his game, apparently.

It's been years and he's still awful at reading the play, still awful at lateral movement, and has stats that get worse on a game by game basis.

After watching the Dubnyk analysis, I kind of agree him following isn't terrible because he's already set and down. Him following is battling after already being a fish out of water.

That being said - good lord why the f*** is he down and set so f***ing early?

Knobloch didn’t learn from game 1 in LA. We just tied it riding McDavid and Draisaitl all period and he puts them out late in the game to try and win in regulation. Both games go to OT with either bottom 6 line out. Comedy of errors. Starts with the knob though. You tied it up late. Get it to OT.

He has gotten worse at reading the play and lateral movement. You could almost mistake his slow, stiff movement for a lower body issue.

We were in complete control thirteen minutes, and then Draisaitl makes a lazy careless giveaway. But the defenseman makes a great play and it’s snuffed. Danger over. But then Hague takes a shot from the corner that hits Skinner in the chest and you think he’ll just swallow it with his body. But he inexplicably flops down and rolls over and it’s an easy goal. We weren’t the same after that.
Nails the game turning point. It was all down hill from there.
