Post-Game Talk: Literally shooting yourself in the foot

The minute after that tying goal is the loudest I've ever heard the crowd while in Rogers Place. Fans deserved overtime. Multiple f*** ups on that game winner and of course a bad bounce. 2 on 4 and somehow the puck gets through to the guy in the high slot. Skinner moving like a dump truck can't just make a normal lateral push and ends up 8 feet outside of his crease. Skinner made some good saves tonight despite some very unorthodox and uncomfortable looking movement. First 2 goals by him absolutely killed the Oilers jam and all the momentum they had. First goal was entirely his fault. Second was a pretty pathetic attempt as well opening his legs wider than the grand canyon, but the two fowards back defending also really pooched that one. Third goal was a horrible change and Skinner yet again not being able to make a slightly above average save.

Overall his night was below average, as it usually is. Praying for Pickard in game 4. Not the Oil's best game, but I've seen enough of Stuart Skinner f***ing this team to peg this one on him even if it truly wasn't all on him. Really really really bad goaltender.

It wasn't in our zone. It was a good quick reversal, a good play. The whole line changed. But again lets blame Drai and this is rarity, bad line changes with this club. They've been pretty responsible with that the last number of seasons.

Theres one debacle tonight, the idiot in net we expected to be bad.
It also was at center ice, you cant go for a line change there.

Yeah I agree Skinner wears the horns for tonight, but Draisaitl also wasnt near good enough.

Say what you will but Skinner's first GA was putrid. We had all the momentum at that point. I'm not here to say that we badly outplayed Vegas or anything, but if Pickard was in net we are likely up 3-0 right now. Goaltending aside the PP needs to be better. Gulutzan needs to get our PP going or he should be down the road along with Schwartz this offseason. I'd like to see some fresh blood injected into the lineup. We need more scorers so that when we do get chances they are buried. I'd also like to see more speed in the lineup. Kapanen or Philp and Jeff Skinner should draw in IMO. Henrique has been the invisible man out there and should take a seat. Maybe Podkolzin should sit a game or 2 to give Jeff Skinner a shot?

Our PP scored tonight.

Zero chance I sit Podkolzin.

Id sit snowpants arvi for skinner way before him.

Classic Not My Fault Stu.

1st goal / a total mess of an initial save and winds up flat on his ass losing the puck completely and doing the freshly caught fish dance, puck into net.

2nd goal / yes a breakaway where he lifts his sliding pad up - why only he and God knows - and it’s an easy slide through a bus sized 5 hole.

3rd goal / yes a shit line change but overplays the short pass and has to dash back allowing the puck to magically go right through him

4th goal / what in the holy f*** was that. Lost track of time, did the Street Hockey Shuffle and gets walked. Just stay in your Goddam net so Pope Leo doesn’t have to put his stick into your yawning cage to prevent an open net goal YOU FKG MORON.

Yes Smilin’ Stu made a couple nice stops. That’s what he’s paid to do. But the 4 he lets in are all stoppable pucks, 3 of them routine.

The gameplay completely changed after that joke of a first goal where the team visibly tightened their sphincters because of his erratic goaltending.

Get him away from the team. I’d rather ride and die with an EBug at this point.

Guy is obviously hurt. What is Stu's excuse? He was as well rested as well rested could be. Connor still doesn't have much zip on his shot so something is likely up with him as well.

We were in complete control thirteen minutes, and then Draisaitl makes a lazy careless giveaway. But the defenseman makes a great play and it’s snuffed. Danger over. But then Hague takes a shot from the corner that hits Skinner in the chest and you think he’ll just swallow it with his body. But he inexplicably flops down and rolls over and it’s an easy goal. We weren’t the same after that.

It’s still on Skinner because these saves need to be made, but f*** me the high zone turnovers from the top line and 29 especially.

Thought McDavid had a pretty good game tonight, but Leon is a mess. If he’s hurt or something and can’t move his feet, someone is going to have to have a conversation with him about ins hope passes backwards and to the middle of the ice. It’s killing our team at the moment.

The shit goalie is the shit goalie. Can’t control that. Can control blind airhead passes to dumb areas for no reason that end in our net. Time to stop that from the top line.

I love Draisaitl, but he was horrendous tonight. We taught in peewee don’t keep an open blade and jab out your stick towards your net- it’s like a shot on goal. On Vegas’ first goal- Drai knows you need to manage the game and not try to go through 5 guys- turns it over and it’s in the net. That third goal- he is the centre on the line- he can’t go from the far boards for a line change at the far bench when Vegas has the puck in the neutral zone. He has a habit of coasting when changing.

You’re right, he had an MVP season. Best player on the planet. No doubt. This is a different season and right now is being outscored by Reilly Smith. He looks to be several notches below Eichel.

Now- that last goal was a comedy of errors. Knoblauch not learning from Game 1 of the LA series. I don’t know what Kulak was doing. Nurse decides to take himself right out of the play. Then, there is Skinner. The master of shit. He has no sense of what is happening in the game. He has no idea where his net is. He didn’t stop the puck. He took himself right out of the play.

I don’t blame Skinner. Fans knew who he was as a goalie. Media outside of Edmonton knew. Everyone was calling for an upgrade. Oilers management and its media cronies thought they knew better. They decided to hook McDavid’s Stanley cup dreams (and him re-signing) to Skinner. Vegas may very well pull the reverse sweep on the Oilers. Like you said- one guy is the WORST goalie in the cap era and the other is 6-0. I f***ing hate oilers management
Nice post but if you don't mind I'll blame Skinner. As you mention with game on the line with secs left he's swimming far out of the crease taking himself out of the net.

When I was in hockey we were taught all kinds of bad things happen when your goalie is pointless 15feet out of his crease right out of the play.

Again, and I encourage people to think about this the only reason Drai is even at the goal line is because he knows what kind of clown is in net and that theres another bomb going off.

Agree with you on the stick inclination but we're microanalying a split second play and all the best players in the world and including Bobby Orr have tipped that puck into their own net.

The one play thats indescribable is the goalie completely leaving his net so the opponent can get a winning goal in last second. If Skinner makes ANY better decision there we're in OT.

They don’t have the killer mentality tonight.
A huge part of it is who was in net. Once that second one went in, you could almost see the spirit leave the bench. Hell, the entire crowd went so quiet it felt like a mausoleum for the entire 2nd and 3rd.

They know they cannot make as many mistakes simply because the saves will not be there. So then they tighten up, grip their sticks too much and become extremely tentative. And we saw the result, similar to how it played out in the regular season at times too. They turtle defensively and stop playing that aggressive game, because they can't rely on Skinner as they could on Pickard. And they are not a team built to defend, let's be frank. They need to be aggressive, they will be taking risks, because they try and attack with speed through the neutral to stretch the coverage and open lanes for the hail mary passes from the likes of Bouchard, Klingberg and Walman.

All the goals were putrid.

The second goal he's moving laterally for no reason and has the biggest five hole I've ever f***ing seen, yet his paddle is no where to be found.

Third goal literally gets fired into his crest and he bobbles it into the net.

There is no defending Drai tonight, sorry. No reasonable opinion would, no matter the love for the player. He needs to own it and move on, and I’m sure he will.
As for Skinner, he was horrible tonight as well. Both things can be true. Difference is, Drai will break out of this malaise. Skinner should be fired into the sun.
DRai wasn't good in the game. I said that multiple times. But what Oiler was good in this game? McD and Hyman? Perry? Its about it. Drai had company.
