Post-Game Talk: Literally shooting yourself in the foot

Skinner showed exactly why he needs a one way ticket to join Yakupov in the KHL. Gives up two quick goals after we come out on fire and completely deflates the team. Pickard stops at least one of those (probably both). We score a 3rd goal and it’s curtains for Vegas.

Won’t even comment on Stu somehow having his stick by the side of the post at the end and botching it so badly that the puck ends up in the slot.

Blame Drai all you want, but those turnovers don’t turn into goals against if the goalie does his job. The last goal I’m not putting on Drai. He’s trying to keep the puck out and can’t know that it’ll miss the far post. If anything it’s partly on McDavid for covering no one, then going down when he knew Nurse would sprawl already. Again, doesn’t happen if goalie keeps his stick tight on the post. The puck just stays behind the net or ends up in the corner.
He's not even KHL material

How the F did Skinner choke? The Oilers turned it over AGAIN, and Draisatl deflected it in.

🙄

Please put out where Skinner is in the picture.

They generated virtually no offense after going up 2-0. They had the Knights buried and just let them off the hook.
Yup that was the trap after Stu failed them and they couldn't trust he would make another save. Not sure what's hard about this? They were the vastly better team, they just had use most of it killing themselves to avoid shots against. It was infuriating.

100%. We were all screaming for a 1A goalie all season.

Mutt & Jeff gave Oiler fans and the team the Judge Smails “YOU’LL GET NOTHING…AND LIKE IT!” treatment.
Exactly. Was Stu going to take himself off the team and say "send me to the minors and use some cap space to make a move?"

Does the #1 QB tell the coach that he can't play in big games? "Sorry boss but I can't hit the receivers even when they are open. I'm not your man."

There were a lot of mistakes but at the end of the day... the goalie literally had to hug his post and wait three seconds. That's it. That's all.
Hug which post? There would've been more net to shoot at if Skinner didn't move up. Skinner was the reason why the shot was taken at the goal line

Drai had a rough game but watching the slow motion top down replay of his stick, I was blaming him on the winner. But after re-watching the regular angle it happened so fast and he was probably confused why he was now tasked with playing goaltender while Skinner charging at the puck carrier like Bobby Boucher going for the QB.

He was a main culprit on three GAs tonight. Stripped by Kolesar on the first. Poor puck management and a bad change on the third. And finally the mess of a final shift on the GWG. He was trying to do too much tonight and he was playing right into Vegas' defensive shell.

He played impatient tonight.
Drai was only on ice for two GA tonight including the end debacle which was setup by Skinner swimming out to where, why? Drai is left trying to be goalie with one second left in a game where we don't have a legitmate goalie.

Drai is probably only at goal line there because he's seen the horror shows before and he knows the clown is in net managing to f*** up on the last sequence in the game. If Skinner does ANYTHING a goalie should be doing there then the game goes to OT. But its Skinner so...

It was winnable. It was right. f***ing. there. Up 2-0. But as per usual, they break down defensively and Skinner can't come up with a save at all. They've been frankly spoiled having the steadying presence of Pickard to cover over their mistakes, and now instead have one of the worst tending the net when it comes to those HDSC. This feels so much worse knowing they could have seized a stranglehold on the series and ended it here.
They don’t have the killer mentality tonight.

Skinner wasn't entirely terrible, he made some great saves that kept us in the game after 3-2. But he also failed to make timely saves yet again. It's a different game if we go into the first break with the lead.

On the last sequence, he wasn't wrong to try to close the angle, it wasn't enough time for Smith to go around. But he didn't even play the angle right as Smith still managed to sneak a shot on the near side, even if it wasn't going in.

Agreed. He moved the shooter to a spot that was virtually harmless from a direct shot. Obviously, he couldn't have expected Draisaitl to shoot it into his own net. Skinner played that perfectly fine to get the game to OT.

2 GA because he decided to make a line change when the puck was pretty much in our zone.

Or did you miss the third goal?
It wasn't in our zone. It was a good quick reversal, a good play. The whole line changed. But again lets blame Drai and this is rarity, bad line changes with this club. They've been pretty responsible with that the last number of seasons.

Theres one debacle tonight, the idiot in net we expected to be bad.

DRai was even on the night and had two EV assists and was on ice for only two GA. Not 3, in anycase.

Jam line didn't have a good night tonight and Janmark -2. Nurse and Kulak had rough nights despite Nurse making some good defensive plays.

I'm gonna defend our good players. You know thats my DNA.
There is no defending Drai tonight, sorry. No reasonable opinion would, no matter the love for the player. He needs to own it and move on, and I’m sure he will.
As for Skinner, he was horrible tonight as well. Both things can be true. Difference is, Drai will break out of this malaise. Skinner should be fired into the sun.
