Player Discussion Linus Ullmark (G)

It's very hard to have any confidence in Ullmark in net, every shot on net is a concern until he starts to play consistently like we have seen him in some games & in his Vezina season
Maybe a bit lost in all this is that he’s likely been playing hurt all season. Didn’t someone say he has a herniated disc and will need surgery?

If true, he still played at a pretty high level and got us into the playoffs so I will cut him some slack for the inconsistency.

Not a brilliant observation or anything, but I knew from the first few minutes of the game that Linus was on.

Except for someone like say, Hasek, I look to see how calm the goalie looks; are they relaxed and letting the game come to them or are they "fighting" the game;

Linus was on and it showed at various points where he was just in the proper position with deflected pucks hitting him the lower pads and going wide etc. Many of those shots would have found there way in earlier in the series.

His body language was ice whole game , had excellent positioning for once. If he entred the zone we might have a chance to win this serie
It seems like he has been getting a bit better each game. If is indeed beginning to lock in, it's at the right time.

I still don't think the Senators have had much puck luck and if the hockey gods smile upon us, there are a few dirty goals yet to be had for us. If we can get another lead and play smart, a game 7 may be in the cards.

Tomorrow is going to be bonkers at the CTC.

Just not good enough.

Last night those two first goals were terrible.

That second goal was just ridiculous. At least there was a screen on the first.

The third goal. It’s tough but he gets paid the bucks to make the saves that other people don’t.

All
In all though it was a bad series from him. I mean how many remarkable saves did he make? One? And kleven still had to bat that off the line

At times I blamed Ullmark for giving up the 3rd goal. Often the Sens scored 2 but lacked the firepower to get the 3rd goal of their own. Games 2, 3 and 6 are good examples

It was a tough series for the goalies IMO.

Shots were few and far between, and most of the goals were screened or deflected.

I think Ullmark played well enough under the circumstances after Game 1.

Still don’t blame Staois for making the move. The formula made sense. Hard nosed defence first coach. Strength down the middle. Pretty solid defence depth with a future Norris winner in the making. Then he goes out and gets the best goalie available and made a big upgrade. The only thing that sucks in hindsight is he has too much term. Team is built to win the style of hame we lost. Was looking like he was locked in after last game but couldn’t string together two good performances.

Two terrible calls and another bad goal to be down 2-0 were the potential difference vs going to game 7. Everyone knew we were cooked after that 2nd goal.

That’s a fair expectation if it was Forsberg in net.

He wasn't ready to start the 2nd and the Nylander goal shows that, albeit it was a good shot. I do like Ullmark but I'd like to see Merilainen more next year. I think you can juggle Ullmark and Leevi through out the regular season to get us back into a playoff spot, and in March you can give Leevi more starts for the end of the year and maybe you can take him hot into the playoffs.
