Player Discussion Linus Ullmark (G)

Brady had a clear breakaway early in the 2nd that would have tied the game.

Pinto was wide open in the slot, with almost too much time, Stolarz shut it down. That also would have tied the game. Zetterlund wide open with a wide open net and it goes off the shaft of Storarz stick.

Ullmark let's in that really weird one right after Greig bring us within 2...he let the team down, period.

He was brought in because he is good AND he has playoff experience, on a winning team.

You also don't get much rope in the playoffs. If he looks lost again tonight and let's in a few questionable goals, I think you need to really consider making a move. No player is bigger than the team, and right or wrong you need your goalie playing well - they don't get extra consideration for feelings.
They need to stop shooting it right at the goalie, because that's what both Pinto and Tkachuk did.

I don't think I ever said that Ullmark was good in the last game. He and we know that he was not himself and played terribly. He needs to step it up. If he loses tonight and the GAA SV% are shite, I agree that we need to look at another goalie for the remaining games. But I can also guarantee you it won't be Leevi Meriläinen who gets the first start. We already know how Green works.

I'm inclined to stick with Linus. We have him signed long term for a lot of money. He needs to learn to play in the playoffs at some point. He reminds me of Bobrovsky in multiple playoffs before the last two.
Bob was the Columbus goalie who swept the President Trophy winners, Tampa Bay. He already had the pedigree before he signed in Florida. Linus has lost almost twice as many playoff games as he's won. No comparison IMO.

No our team did not. Go back and watch the game. We gifted Toronto the slot on multiple chances that led to goals. On the other hand Ottawa played a perimeter game for most of the night. We got boxed out by their D for the majority of our chances. If we had those clean, clear slot chances like TML, we may have won that game. If we had half as many PP as they did, same thing.

Ullmark wasn't good. I am not sugarcoating his performance. I expect more from him. But we have this guy signed for five more years after this season and he needs more playoff experience. Pulling him doesn't help him or our team long term. It doesn't help his confidence to say, yeah thanks for the regular season, but f*** you it's the playoffs. We don't have a goalie on this team, including Meri who would have a chance last night. It ain't like Stolarz was amazing for multiple seasons before this. He's finally found his game. We need Ullmark to find his playoff game.
Well, Ullmark signed for 4 more years, not 5, if that's any consolation.

Boston should have picked Greentree with the pick we sent them.
And we should have pushed for Thompson and taken greentree ourselves. And kept kastelic(who would have been very useful rn)
GSG!!

Ullmark was better than game 1 but that bar is low. That's some grade A Korpisalo like play giving up the first two goals so early.

We've signed the 2nd coming of Like to an $8 million deal.

Give Leevi the net and hope for the best.

I was pissed at Ullmark after game 1 but I'm not sure how you all can be so mad at him after tonight's loss. First two Leafs goals were flukey as f$ck; one off a skate and the other off Jensen's knee. He held the fort and got us to OT. The winning goal was a great shot and if he had gloved it, it would've been a spectacular save. He didn't and we lost. I was pissed after game 1. Tonight, I don't blame anyone. It was a solid effort. I'm just sad.

A dialed in goalie nabs these net front bounce goals. Linus is failling us.

Look, Batherson was awful defensively and the goals were not all on him, but Ullmark has followed up a .750 sv% performance with a .857 sv% in game 2.

It's not just the stats either. It's the positioning, body language, the lack of fight, the stiff robotic movements, playing hell deep into the net, etc.

It's not his memory that's that of a goldfish. It's his confidence and mental strength. Ullmark has NEVER posted a .900 sv% in a playoffs run in North America. Not in the NHL or the AHL.

It's time to start Merilainen in game 3. He's our best performing goaltenter this season and the guy who actually saved us when Ullmark went down. He's calm, composed, poised, capable of make "the big save". The exact opposite of our 8M+ goaltender.

We saw it with Cam Ward.
We saw it with Jordan Binnington.

It's time.

Sorry guys but enough with finding excuses I'm done with believing in this guy. He's not a pressure goalie. Even if Ullmark does have a good game once in a while it's a fools trap that just got him an overinflated salary for what might be a decent regular season backup. He was never really time tested but the GM was under pressure and signed him early. Remember that even Forsberg looks like a world beater, gets a few shutouts and wins close games at times. Would you give Forsberg $8M+ per? Would you give Ullmark $8M+ per today? I think most wouldn't. They' might keep him as a cheaper backup and still be looking for a #1. What a waste! We hoped they had solved their net problem but got fooled too. If this is the best he can do under playoff pressure then find another Andy.

To be fair, he almost made a miraculous save on the 1st goal, but was just fraction of a second late.

He made the save on the 2nd goal, but it went straight off Jensen and in. Can't expect him to make a followup save that quickly.

The 3rd one was off the post low blocker side right from the slot.

Linus owes us a win. Enough is enough, I dont care what the stats say. Linus owes us a win and I don’t care how he gets it, he owes us a win

Lol lots of sens players owing us wins right now...

True, I like where we are. The way I see it they have only played 2 real periods of Sens hockey out of 6 total (the 2nd and 3rd last night)

It’s not hard, we only have to win the next 6 periods of hockey to even the series and I think they will.

Leafs look great because they have scored first each game. Linus has to keep us in the game and let the Sens take over the game like they can
