My biggest concern with this guy is looking like a reality. Started 23 games this year with only 27 games left in the schedule. Even assuming he gets 2/3rds of starts the rest of the way through (not remotely a guarantee), he'll finish the season with 41 starts. You just can't pay your top guy $8M+ and he only starts half of your games. The math doesn't math. There's 8 guys in the league who already have between 38-42 games started. Many of them will finish with 55-60 GS. Last year, 8 guys finished with 55-60+ GS.
Next year, he will be one of 8 active goalies with an $8M+ caphit. I sure hope there's some sort of plan to get him up to the same number of starts as the rest of that grouping. Otherwise, this will not be a good contract for this team.
