Well, he's starting tomorrow, so I guess his back is fine now.
Or they want to push it and see how it is before the trade deadline, to give them time to LTIR and replace him if needed.

Hopefully he's good, but we will need to know soon if we want to make a trade.

The good news is that team defense is rhe best its been since before Karlsson was drafted.

Forsberg and a rookie goalie didn't suddenly become world beaters, the way the team is playing is whats making the biggest difference right now.

Id rather ulmark sit for another month and be healthy down the stretch.

As someone who had worked with those who have herniated discs(albeit working in psychiatry, there is a psychological issue that often follows with living in pain), I truly hope his issue is something the medical staff are cautious with.

Even if he seems to be returning this week I hope Linus himself realises that he has to think long term with this. I get that he has an urge to play for Sweden, but if I was him I’d use that time for rehab.

Having a few games for testing the water this week would be good, and then continue to re-assess and build up strength in a low pressure environment would be the perfect plan in both short and long term for him in my opinion. We do also only seem to have like 2 games in 2-3 weeks when the tournament is over. Don’t want these weeks to be used as rehab for consequences that might have come from international duty

We have the Winter Olympics coming up next year, he should set a goal for that instead of this weird tournament that means f*** all to be honest.

For those who follow the Premier League, I don’t want the end of his career to turn out like Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand, an absolute superstar who’s back completely failed him where he stated he could barely walk.

Maybe its just me, but something rubs me the wrong way that he is just getting healthy enough to play a game here only to take off to this idiotic tournament. He has been out for a while, then jumps into play with his national team. I just hate the optics of this. If he needs to fix the herniated disc, get the surgery and be done with it.

If he's going to aggravate his back injury, it's likely to happen whether it's here with us or over there, so I don't see an issue, if anything I see the tournament as an opportunity to shake off any rust from his absence without it costing us points.

There's a non-zero chance he'll be the backup too, given how long he's been out and how well Gustavsson is also playing.

Good take except if your the owner paying millions for this all star goalie, you may think entirely different.

Unless the doctor's, physio, on ice workouts and Linus himself are all saying he's at 100%. There is no reason to assume this timeline is rushing it or that 1-2 games at 4 nations is too much (although I oppose the tournament too).

He could have been ready 2 weeks ago and your logic applied then but here we are two weeks later with a perfectly fine Linus who has to get back in there at some point.

Andlauer is in the health industry, I'm sure he's well informed on the risks associated with it, and has a solid understanding of what's going on. If the team thinks Ullmark's risk of getting injured is significantly higher playing in this tournament than it would be rehabbing that extra week or so, all they have to do is not clear him to play.

I get that sometimes people will "think differently" when they let emotions creep into the decisions, but good businessmen don't let emotions dictate their decisions.

As I mentioned almost a month ago, it's a herniated disc. This is not something that is really predictable, which is why the team's updates are so vague and there is no linear or clear time line to return. Getting on the ice does mean it is better, but it's also testing it with the risk of making it worse. I suspect he'll get surgery in the offseason and should be ok for next year. It's really a matter of whether he can return this year and if so, be in top form down the stretch. It's certainly possible, but just not predictable. There is no use getting upset at Ullmark or the Sens. I don't think this was a previous or undisclosed injury before the trade, at least not to any degree to what he is going through now.

As to why they haven't disclosed the herniated disc, I have no idea. I've thought about this, and thought they just wouldn't at first hoping it would heal and they wouldn't set any alarms bells off. But given the extended time off, it is strange not to come clean. Every injury has a name, term, diagnosis or designation, so kind of weird not to just state it publicly. After 6 weeks, you'd think they would update it. But I think that might be the good news - it sounds like he really is getting closer to returning and feeling better, so they feel they have held quiet for this long, what's another week. If he doesn't play before the break, I'd be surprised if they didn't disclose the issue then.

In the mean time, Leevi is rock solid, and Forsberg already stole a few wins for us against T.O and NJ. There is reason for optimism given the new found defensive structure this team has embraced.
Well they said within a few days it was a back injury, so that only leaves a few options to choose from.

Most teams don’t even disclose that.

100% agreed. If it was an actual all star game selection, I wouldn't have cared but playing for your country can bring out patriotism in everybody

Forsberg tonight so Linus is getting both Tampa games?

Dumb decision. Brutal decision. Lmao.

Guy gets a shutout. "Let's send him down and start the worse of the 3 in a game we are heavily favoured to win and now we have balanced the odds to give them a chance to win."

Anton has a .922 SV% in his last 5 games so whatever. I'll let it fly. It's just that Ovy wrister from the point still haunting me.

Oh right, forgot this was a back-to-back situation.
And 3rd in 4 with travel less than 24h
So yeah Ullmark both Tampa games makes sense
Don't know about Forsberg tonight though
Nashville is due after a 4 games losing streak and is not bad at home 12-9-3
Might not be as easy as it seems with Norris out and Jensen still out
