Player Discussion Linus Ullmark (G)

He’s really timed his rehab well hasn’t he?

Just in time to play for Sweden.

i think being afraid of injury if he is ready to go is a loser mentality. Ullmark has rarely had the opportunity to play for his country and he is a late bloomer. If he is ready let him play and see if he can gain some confidence and momentum.

I suspect if he was a team canada goalie the thinking here would be slightly different

I didn’t mind that Hasek played for the Czechs in 2006.

He was also healthy going into the tournament.

And it was the Olympics.

Not some all-star game masquerading as a best on best tournament.

We still haven’t any word really when he’ll be inserted back into the lineup.

Got to wonder if our backup tenders will play more games than our starter this year?

And that’s just this year. If he has a wonky back, maybe it will be like that more than just this year.

Luckily our team is playing good team defense, and the other two goalies have stepped up, so they can take their time.

It's been discussed in this thread that historically, he has usually played around 40 games a season as a pro.

Yes, although I was thinking of the future in my post. I see that he had one 49 game year, one 41 game year, and another 40 game year. Every other year was less than 40 games. No idea how many of those years he had back problems though. If we're basing this on history, its looking like our backup is going to be playing about half of the games.

Not gonna let it ruin my day

If he can't stay healthy then he can't stay healthy.
Appreciate the replies.

I see him as the singularly most important player on the team, so I would let it ruin my day and dash my hopes of doing damage in the playoffs, should they make it in, but I think it's fair to say that if he can't make it through a few extra games, it'd likely just be a matter of time until he were injured in Ottawa.

You also have to remember that this tournament is being put on by the NHL, so it’ll be full court press to make sure players play.

It’s no surprise that the only guy who’s pulled out plays for Vegas, since it’s clear that Bill Foley has security footage of Gary Bettman snorting blow off a casino bathroom’s urinal cake.

He won’t be so understanding for other teams.

How would you feel if he goes to the tourney and gets more game reps after being sidelined for so long and then comes back to Ottawa in even better game shape for a playoff push?

I’m not going to worry about stuff I can’t control or stuff that hasn’t or may never happen.

Namaste 🙏

I would be fine with that. All the fear relates to injury and compounded by it being in a tournament I don't have interest in.

I wish I had that ability, but I unfortunately worry about plenty that is out of my control :)

Just curious. How would you feel if he played this weekend and were injured there and missed the rest of the season?

Shit might happen, it might not. Ain't no use living scared.
Well I'd feel like shit lol, but playing games for the Senators is a required thing, playing international hockey is not, so it feels a little more like it's a natural circumstance if it happens in a Senators game. It'd be more like if he say blew it out snowboarding or some other chosen activity, some of which is restricted in those contracts. Personally, I think any injuries from international play should potentially void their NHL contracts. Obviously not in this case since it's them putting it on.

We aren't just talking about a guy that's healthy going and some freak accident happening, we're talking about a guy with a pre-existing condition that sounds more like a chronic problem that will need to be managed, so I don't think it's quite the hysteria as it would be say worrying about Tkachuk going, hence why that hasn't even been brought up as much of a concern compared to Ullmark.

Nah I don't care either. We have 6 games before the break I'm guessing he'll get into one of those
I don't want any of our players in the 4 Nations Tournament. We are in a battle to get into the playoffs after many years of being in the wilderness! We cannot take the risk of injuries occurring.

4 nations can also have the opposite effect where players get an extra jump in their step after from playing with other great players. They'll also still be in game shape where everybody else is rusty after significant time off.

There will be guys hurt and it sucks, but the risk is there for every team. And the Hasek thing was waaaay different, he had stated before that he wasn't going to the Olympics -and then he did. It was also the only chance we had with him because half his 2 year contract was erased by the lockout. We got 0 playoff games from the greatest goalie ever we signed to address the biggest problem Ottawa had.
