Player Discussion Linus Ullmark (G)

So.. what's happening?

Thought he’d at least be on the bench for one of the games on the road. He wasn’t mentioned during the interview with Green today while the press were asking about other injured players.

Saw some clip with him walking to the dressing room after a skate the other day, seemed to be limping a bit tbh.

There was a video the other day of goalie coach taking wrist shots at him, before practice, while he was kneeling on the ice. Didn’t look close yet.

Sounds like Ullmark was moved to LTIR to make room for Perron, nothing to worry about as it's a paper move since he's already spent 10 days on IR and can be immediately activated once healthy, we just have to clear the deck (ie send one of merrilainin/forsberg down, along with whatever other callups)

If guys like JBD, Norris and and Gregor aren't ready by then, one or more of them may need to go to LTIR to cover their replacements though.

Not sure about Norris, but it sure sounds like both Gregor and JBD will be out for a while yet - either or both could go to LTIR...

2 and a half weeks away from 4 Nations and he is still not back in the lineup. I'd be disappointed if he played in that tournament after missing what is now over a month of play time.
Yes there is no way he should play in that exhibition tournament. It would be sheer lunacy. Way too risky.
He needs to rest up his body and be ready to go hard down the stretch so that we might have a shot at making the playoffs. It would incredibly selfish of him to get injured in that exhibition tournament. I think Ullmark has more common sense than that. He seems like a very reasonable person who would understand the situation.
He has been injured 3 times this season.

He needs to use that tourney to get back in game shape so that when he returns he is in top form. If he can play, he should go and dominate to best position himself to return

He may not even play much.

I am sure the experience of being around his countrymen will be great for his spirit, and I think he comes back energized and ready for a big push.

If he plays 4 of the remaining 6 games prior to the stupid tournament then he should go to keep up his game. If he can't start playing now then he should skip.

i think being afraid of injury if he is ready to go is a loser mentality. Ullmark has rarely had the opportunity to play for his country and he is a late bloomer. If he is ready let him play and see if he can gain some confidence and momentum.

I suspect if he was a team canada goalie the thinking here would be slightly different

Yup, let Gus the Bus take 75% of the games. Or send Forsberg instead and say the plane tickets got mixed up :sarcasm:

PTSD from Hasek in 06 I guess? If the guy can play then you can't prevent him from playing, he's earned the right to be there. Staios said they're taking a very patient approach with Ullmark, he's not going to be playing games for any team until he's 100% ready.

Eh. I just don't care about this tournament one little bit. The Ottawa Senators and the Stanley Cup are why I watch hockey and have never cared what happens in international hockey other than how it might impact the Senators. Would prefer it just weren't happening. That seems to be a pretty common view for this tournament.

Also, Ullmark's injury sounds like it's more of an ongoing thing needing to be managed, potentially a chronic type problem, so it's not quite like an injury you just move past and good to go, potentially. That moves the needle for me on this.

I don't usually cheer for Canada either. Don't care at all who wins international hockey.

I don't know if that is how Ullmark will think about it.

It seems like he knew his body wasn't right anymore when he signed. He got paid, so I guess good for him, not for the Senators though.
