In more or less the same vein, I wonder when they will start Merilainen in a game? I think they have a back-to-back coming up soon. Just curious.
It's hard to say. Linus wasnt scheduled to go back-to-back against the Pens, but had a great night.

He had 2 full days off (3 if we count the day of the game against the Kraken) and then a normal cadence for the Flames and tonight against the 'Nucks.

If he feels fresh enough, I don't see why he doesn't go again against the Oilers before a week off. They can decide if, after that break, he can go back-to-back again against the Jets and the Wild (very short trip, same time zone).

3 days off again before back-to-back against the Blues and Stars.

In modern times, that is a crazy workload for a goalie, but with some many days off, and how important this is, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't get another back-to-back or 2 before this road trip is over.

Then again, what the heck to I know? It's all speculation and up to analytics and Ullmark.

"(Ullmark's) back tightened, so we felt it was best if he came out," Green said following Sunday's loss, per TSN's Claire Hanna. The Senators don't play again until Saturday, meaning more about the former Vezina Trophy winner's status will be known later this week.

Back tightness?

Oh come on, Ullmark. We need you bro. Hopefully nothing serious man. He hasn't been doing anything out of the ordinary in terms of work load unsure wth is going on here like he just played 3 back-to-backs in span of 1.5 weeks.

Wonder if back tightness is related to earlier in the season, when he missed time with a “strain”.

Id rather he ere on the side of caution than push through something and risk more severe injury.

He's too valuable a part of the team to gamble with his health.

I know how he feels. Stood up for 2 hours watching a u11 game the other day and when I stepped down a level to leave I wrenched by back.

Good to know I'm in the same shape as a pro athlete.

Marc Methot, a former Senators defenceman and TSN analyst, noted on the social media platform X on Monday that the Senators will have to manage Ullmark’s workload.

“I just don’t think he’s used to playing that much. Now contrast those numbers with guys like Connor Hellebuyck (Winnipeg) or Sergei Bobrovsky (Florida),” Methot wrote. “Ullmark is a great goalie, but he’ll need to be managed accordingly for recovery or injuries will be frequent.”

He has only played more than 41 games once in his career.

That doesn't mean that playing more games is the cause of his injuries, but it's something that should be considered as a possibility.

Unfortunately, unless Sogaard or Merlainen take that next step this season, or Forsberg finds more consistency, they don't have a goalie internally capable of playing half the remaining schedule.

There aren't any real trade options that make sense asset+cap wise. To illustrate where the market is at for capable goalies, Colorado gave up a 2nd for Blackwood. We don't have those kind of picks to burn.
