G.T.A.
I can understand the argument that this can't all be on Ullmark. It is the exact same story with every other goalie over the last 7 seasons. So it must be something to do with our structure, or our core... righ?

But, the eye test tells me Ullmark has been trash. Some of the soft goals he's given up; it just leaves me in disbelief,

.810 save percentage last night .. 4 goals on 21 shots.

Goalies are paid to make difficult stops. Other goalies do it. Ours does not. The best teams have something in common, their goalie is one of their best players. You can't win in the NHL when your goalie is below average.

I will say that our D is not getting the job done. With Ullmark's fragile confidence hanging by a thread, our D needs to step up and they aren't. Way too many mistakes.

I am truly at a loss as to why this team can not turn the corner.

Linus update remarks:

“Ottawa has lots of strollers and lots of bad hockey players.”

Its easy to crap on Ullmark, but I'm curious about why our goaltending problems are so structural. We have been through 17 unique goalies since 2017. Why would we get lucky with number 18.

Nilsson actually was my favorite of the random goalies we had. Thought he was the medium term answer to getting us through the rebuild. Still jarring to have not picked up Daccord on waivers...

Nilsson is probably number one on my list of random cup-of-coffee Sens that I love. Shame his career ended the way it did.

Viktor Stalberg is number two, Vladislav Namestnikov number three.

With no excuses Ullmark lost 3 points all by himself when the Sens had late leads. In most losses he's given up 1 or more goals on easy shots off or through his body. Lately the team has not scored enough goals early on when it meant something but he's put them in a hole playing catch up almost every game and when they tie it up he gives up the next one.

The goals will dry up. Most of this roster is way over their heads with the PPGs which will not last throughout the course of this season, that may include Tkachuk and Stutzle, as well, but the rest, its a guarantee

San Jose is a must win for Ullmark, you want to see him be at the level he was in game 1 vs Florida, but I’ll just take a ugly win if that’s what he’s got

Last night was what I expected of this guy coming in. He's clearly capable. Hope we see more of that.
If we get that guy in games that we play the way we can (see TML, Bos, NYR, StL, Phi, ect) then we'll be a tough team to beat.

Right now, pts% has Buffalo in the final wildcard spot, the difference between us and them is flipping one loss into a win.

That said, Boston, Det, Phi, Clb and even NYI will all want that wild card spot too.

I hadn't really realized they were still so close after the losing streak and was starting to resign myself to a lost season, but definitely, they'll be a hard team to beat if Ullmark plays like that. The team won't always stink like last night, that was weird. No legs at all from almost anyone.

All mediocre teams.

The teams in the running for the wild card spot? Yeah, if they weren't, they probably would have either already locked it up or been in a divisional spot...

We really should be able to lock down that wild card spot if Ullmark plays to his abilities. We aren't a perfect team, but if we gain some confidence and stick to the things that let control play against the other list of teams in my OP, then, we can definitely be a playoff team.

Two other players I wish had stayed! I remember being really frustrated we didn't try to resign Stalberg..

An unknown! LOL. Best goalie stats over the previous 2 years.

Above average stats his entire career, even on a crappy team in Buffalo.

What do you say after he saved the team last night? That was an embarrassing display they put on in front of him.

Finally, a game where he's just steady and as advertised. May this be the season long turn around for Linus
He was far more than steady, he was amazing.

That said, he made the easy saves look easy and made many hard ones look east too. His presence in net is VERY different than anyone we have had in there since Anderson.

That toe save he had late was insane. I also really liked the save on a point shot where he just perfectly timed shoving the screener to open the lane. Savvy vet move there.
