Since Emery? What about Hasek?

I dont really consider Hasek a real Sens player in a way, he’s got a mad asterix, He was here for as long as a waiver pickup, it looked like he quit on the team, always felt like Olympics that year was his priority and I don’t blame him for that but i think the Sens felt they couldn’t win without him because of their goalie history and in a way he completely psyched the team out when he signed here that he was going to deliver and they couldn’t overcome the Hasek presence/non-presence when it was clear winning in Ottawa wasn’t a priority for him like it was for all the other players

Robin Lehner? I know he didn't really show it with us, just being kinda firey, but he for sure qualifies.

That huge save in OT after not facing a shot for 24 minutes gives us that extra point that may put us in the playoffs...then it is all worth it for Andlauer and Stevie

He’s a good goalie but I don’t get a feeling of competivenss and fight from him. He’s responsible and calm, but doesn’t provide a fire from the crease.

I actually notice that he fights for every puck no matter what position he's in. Doesn't give up on it and seems very focused to me. Plenty of fire in there imo. Was jacked and jumping in the huddle at the end of the game too.

He looks like he's much more a master of the position than we've had in a long time and his ability will show out this season imo. He isn't constantly putting himself out of position and needing to rely on miraculous saves like it seemed Korpisalo did, and even though there's been a few we'd like back this year, none looked as leaky and like the absolute stinkers that we were seeing constantly last year from both guys.

I'm interested to see how he looks on Tuesday in a big game against a hot Maple Leafs team getting good goaltending from Stolarz atm.

You might be right.

I also think a part of it is Green pushing the rest of the team not to rely on Ullmark (or Forsberg) to bail them out constantly, too. I know it's always a boost to have THE guy between the pipes, but it's also on our skaters to bring it every night and put in enough goals to win, as well.

It's way too easy when you have that solid guy in nets to lay back and relax a bit after getting 1 or 2 goals. Only way we'll win is to stay on the throttle all night, and work hard at both ends of the ice.

Like what if Spezza made the Olympic team and then got injured, would we have said he didn't prioritize the team? Every player dreams of repping their country in the Olympics.

Yes, it really seems to matter to these guys. Canadian players talk about it too. Also, arguably Hasek's greatest career moment came at the Olympics with his god like performance in 1998. As much as I hated it, we should have re-signed him. Hitching their wagon to Emery was not wise imo and gave that great team a bit of a handicap they had to cover for.

A legend like Hasek probably should get the benefit of the doubt when assessing his own ability to play through a previous injury, but I can see the frustration and impossible to know the conversations being had at the time. I still think they tossed a massive opportunity aside no matter the circumstances. Almost guaranteed cup swapping him in for Emery.

Yes, fair point, but in hindsight, they probably still lost that bet. Their options were to re-sign the greatest goaltender of all time with some durability concerns, or go with a guy that gives your team a handicap. Hated that move so much, but I was probably more down on Emery than most were and feel like we wasted those years even considering the run they did have. Maybe it wouldn't have been different with Hasek, but it was hard to stomach. I am probably the only guy in the country with a Hasek Sens jersey and cheered against Canada in 98 solely because of him, so fair to say I was a Hasek Stan.

Damn, if that's true, its kinda wild that the team wouldn't give a 41 year old Hasek the benefit of the doubt in a situation like this.

Bryan Murray said he quit on the team. When the post season interviews happened, Muckler wanted to resign Hasek and Murray in the interview basically said “no we need someone we can count on that the players will know will show up every night”

And that person was Martin Gerber
