If Ullmark keeps playing like this, the Sens are gonna shed the fragile label pretty quickly.

They’re winning games they used to lose because when they took their foot off the gas, pucks always went in. He keeps them in it and allows them to recover, and we saw them do just that in SJ, Anaheim (even though they lost, they kept coming from behind and got a point), late goal against Detroit, and now tonight survive the push in the third. He’s been the biggest difference over the past little bit.

Travis Hamonic - the defenceman who is tied for being the second-least valuable player in the NHL by Evolving-Hockey's 'Wins Above Replacement' (WAR) metric.

Isn’t it evident Hamonic had very little impact on the win/lose record and the reason we were losing after a good start was bad goaltending and uncommitted forwards. Now that they are getting the goaltending and the commitment from the top 6, they win, but the fans are still dunking on Hamonic despite the recent run of good play.

Seems silly to me to focus on Hamonic, but someone has to be the whipping boy I guess

Regardless he needs to be off the team.

Check the teams we are chasing in our division for the last spot, Tampa and Boston both have their 6th Dman in - territory’s, this is the NHL right now. All teams have Dman that struggle to be + players

Why Hamonic takes heat when Pinto puts up another game of 0’s everywhere for the 20th game on a row and people were talking Pinto up in preseason as maybe our best overall Center and he has massively under performed yet Hamonic still takes the heat. Feels like there’s another agenda at work here versus Hamonic for whatever reasons

Not sure if you've been following along the threads on here but Pinto has been taking a ton of heat.

It speaks to the roster construction. Pinto has linemates who don’t make him look good, Hamonic should be playing on the 3rd pairing not the top pairing, depth for both is the issue, but I still like Hamonics game overall for what he is. Especially in high pressure moments

If Staios had spent the Perron and Amadio money on an impact top 4 D, we'd be in such a better spot right now.

Instead of Perron and Amadio, we could've dressed Crookshank and Reinhart.. or any no name bottom six forward. I'm not blaming Staios. At the time, both Perron and Amadio seemed like solid additions.

But a top 4 D to play with Sanderson... what a difference that would make.

Is there anyone on the boards who is critiquing Hamonic but not pointing out that Pinto has been awful? Mason Lohrei and Nick Perbix (Boston and TB's sixth defender) are both better players than Hamonic, and would be upgrades over him.

Looking forward to Ullmark playing his worth and bailing us out despite Hamonic being slotted up higher than he should be

Agreed. It is also possible that none of the solid top 4D ufas wanted to sign with Ottawa though.

That feels easy to say in hindsight with Zub out and Perron basically not playing, but putting a player paid as well as Zub down on the bottom pairing isn't realistic. Short term for a year maybe, but if they went that route, it would be to replace one of Zub or Jensen and one would be heading out the door soon after. Can just as easily point to a hole in the top 9 with Perron not playing and numerous guys struggling.

But didn't you know? Hamonic is 100% responsible for Sandy's bad play.

I agree with you. This is the last year of his contract, he'll be gone soon enough. It is incredible however that he is one of the few D we have that doesn't get injured in spite of the wear and tear on his body.

I remember reading he tried with all of the UFA RD, none wanted to come here. He had to make a trade to get Jensen. It was hard enough to get players to come to Canada when we made the playoffs, now, it's almost impossible. Things will have to improve greatly before we become a destination.

Linus is up to a .909 SV% on the season, and 20th in the league (>=5GP). He was 37th a couple days ago.
