He's a guy I'd look at trading while his value is at an all-time high. I think he'll be okay as a role player but he's not a top 6 forward, especially at his age. It's extremely rare for players to break out at 25+ in the NHL.

What exactly is a guy who is 26 and had a great AHL playoffs but isn't a great skater worth?

Not very much really, we are better off to see if he can fit in with the big club but he isn't the answer to Canucks bigger problems.

With Boeser likely leaving, there could be room for his skillset on the Canucks next season. Complementary guy that excels around the net, and can also play a bottom six role. Canucks need put their money towards play drivers in the top six, and Karlsson could be a very useful role player.

There's a lot of goals waiting for someone who can take the Horvat/Kuzmenko/Boeser spot on PP1 and that general rebound and tips guy on the team. The lineage of that spot has a lot of breakout goal scoring years. Horvat the year he left, Kuzmenko the following year, and Boeser the year after.

The drawback of playing that spot is that they basically print money and price themselves out of contract renewal lol. There's a joke somewhere here about King Midas, but I'm not clever enough right now.

The first 10 or so are easy to replace...it's the next 15 that are tough....

A 25-30 goal scorer is going to command $6M+ (more depending on point production). I don't think goal scoring by committee works in the NHL playoffs. Regular season maybe when combined with strong defensive play.

LK is a fully mature player (26) who is coming off a 14 goal playoffs in the A. If he earns the ice time (which clearly I believe he will) then he’s going to score a lot of goals.

Josh Leivo had a 15 goal playoffs and scored 4 in 51 games the following season.

I kinda think that's DeBrusk's spot now. Another reason I am okay with walking from Boeser is he and DeBrusk despite not being identical players do need the same minutes and ice to be successful (which is why I was so frustrated that Tocchet kept insisting on mashing them together).

If he can maintain chemistry beside EP40, with a rejuvenated Petey + a high end talent to play with them, it could be a great fit. Or Karlsson adds to our bottom 6 depth and provides some PP2 utility. Either way, his clutch finishing around the net will be a nice add if he comes in and shows he can keep up next year.

I doubt Karlsson will ever be a speed burner, but his board work and ability to get open in front has improved every year in NA.

I think you have to pencil him into the lineup in a third-fourth line role, unless he really does a full face-plant at training camp.

Unless he doesn't show up to play at camp, I would given him a long leash and see what he can do.

Goalies have a very very high ceiling and a moderate basement.

D looks world class and prospects look good.

Depth looks pretty world class. AHL youth to mid aged players literally good enough to win a championship.

But up front we have one elite player and a decent top sixer, one winger prospect, and a guy who torches on the 3rd line.

I'm not handwaving away the problem of lacking sufficient elite forwards, but it's not an impossible hole to fill if we're patient and it's far from the hardest hole teams have to fill.

Presumably we have a top center (if Petey comes back healthy and right). And franchise number 1 D. An elite number 2. A solid number two/elite number 3 in MPetey. an elite 5 and decent 4 with the right partner in Myers, and prospects who look potentially unreal.

All is not bleak.

Our next moves are imperative. But we're starting with some serious parts as long as we don't panic over a perceived Hughes deadline and rush to blowing every asset on the wrong guys.

Agreed. The Canucks now have an embarrassment of riches in goal; and more blueline depth than almost any team in the Western Conference.

The big issues are up-front, but the poster is right. It's far easier to plug the holes up front than it is to find impact d-men and a top-tier goaltender.

I think Rutherford and Allvin are on the right track. It's just a question of whether it's happening fast enough to satisfy Quinn Hughes, and keep him in Vancouver.

Pretty much a lock to make Vancouvers bottom 6 next year, with potential to move up. After the season Karlsson just had especially in the playoffs, it is well deserved. A true feel good player of a downer of a season for the Canucks. Looking forward to his progression.

Having a lot more wins lately in the development department...........which is definitely new for us. Management and ownership have to be given a lot of credit for that. Abby has turned into an incredible success. Bodes well for our future.

I agree completely. This is a team that was on a wicked trajectory up the standings not two seasons ago.

We would have probably beaten Edmonton if not for a few key injuries.

It's not like we're some garbage team trying to climb out of the sewer, we just had a season where even things that shouldn't go wrong, did, and spectacularly to boot.

A couple of savvy moves to shore up our top 6 with a couple of impact players will have us right back into the playoffs and we can start iterating again towards becoming a real contender after that.

I think the Canucks are going to be THE bounce back story of next season.

Yeah I hope so. Instead of trying to fill up on bottom 6 UFA like Heinen and Sprong we should give cheap homegrown players a chance.

Worst case he can’t hack it then we pickup veteran depth in season, not expensive to acquire.

For Karlsson it’s not like I think he’ll be a major producer but I think he can give us bottom 6 production (eg 10-15 goals)and a much needed element along boards, getting to net front and greasy areas etc

His compete in the Calder run was very impressive.
