Player Discussion Linus Karlsson

Karlsson will have to play his way off the parent Canucks roster for next season. And unless what he's going right now is a mirage, he's in the bottom-six when Vancouver breaks camp.

What a novel notion for Canucks fans......a prospect who was actually developed on their AHL team, and improved so much that you can't keep him down. It's not something we're used to seeing.

But there's a half-dozen Abby Canucks who could join him one day. They've all improved by leaps and bounds--and actually propelled themselves into the conversation.

Hopefully the days of the Canucks signing eight or nine UFA's in the off-season, and bringing in the likes of Heinen, Sprong, Brannstrom and Desharnais, are over for good.

The Canucks traded Jonathan Dahlen for Karlsson in early 2019. Now, over 6 years later, he seems on the verge of becoming a full time NHL player at age 25. Pretty amazing. Also an interesting note of trivia: the Canucks traded Alex Burrows to Ottawa to get Dahlen. If I've done the math right, Burrows also made the NHL as a full time player at the age of 25. The Burrows trade went down over 9 years ago.

Yeah he’s probably around 6’2 200lbs. I saw a photo of him standing beside Boeser and he looked a foot and a half taller at least.

I really hope he gets a top 6 look next year. Watching him he kind of reminds me Patric Hornqvist.

He might eventually but that's our problem lots of guys in the bottom 6, our top 6 really sucks and our pipeline has basically Lekk as a legit top 6 forward so all of this talk about trading our 15th is just not a good long term plan.

We need top notch center prospects like 4 years ago now and that problem isn't going away.

Some of the guys in Abby might be able to slide into our bottom 6 and maybe we can leverage trading some guys for draft picks at the deadline if we are out of a playoff spot but the Canucks mentality of not having a forward vision beyond making the playoffs hasn't worked and it won't work.
