Defensive pairings are a little easier to name. Our first pairing of Chara and Carlo has to be C&C Block Factory. Krug-McQuaid...Freddy Mac? And if we get the Millers together, I'd call them Whiter Shade of Pale. (Bonus points if you get the reference sans Google, and major bonus points if you get the reference within the reference.)

Does anyone still refer to Bergeron as 'The Count' - anymore?

'Counting Carbs With The Nose Face Killah' - would be the next diet book. (pasta = carbs)

Held out hope they would one day find a winger (inserted one for fun) to complete what seems appropriate for these two mainstays:

Bergeron

Marchand

Wennberg

Vroom, Vroom!

The Rangers had the goal a game line

Triple Crown line

French connection

The Devils 4th line of McKay Peluso and holik had a name I thought- Crash???

The Broad Street Bullies was the best team nickname and the only 2 lines I can come up with was

Legion of Doom

Rat Patrol (Paul Holmgren Ken linesman Brian Propp)

The Flyers tough guys we're apt named

Dave 'Hammer' Schultz
Don 'Big Bird' Saleski
Bob 'Hound' Kelly
Andre 'Moose' DuPont

Of course linesman

Three of the toughest/viscious Flyers of that era who actually were legit players

Behn Wilson- viscious and even booed by Flyers fans he was so over the top

Paul Holmgren- good player but an animal

Mel Bridgeman- good player and one of best fighters ever. If you came up behind Mike Milbury and said 'Mel Bridgeman says hello' you will see fluid collecting around his feet

One of my favs, the "G-A-G" for Goal-a-Game line. Vic Hadfield-Jean Ratelle (Ratty)-Rod Gilbert. Exciting trio for the Rangers of the 60s and early 70s.

Legion of Doom

I was a comic book kid so I always liked the Legion of Doom nickname.

I also liked the "Big Red Machine" line of Larionov, Krutov, Makarov (Fetisov and Kasatonov). That old style Russian hockey with all the circling and regroups was incredible to watch.

That's one thing I miss from the 70's, the great player nicknames. One of my favorites was Jerry "King Kong" Korab. Now we have Sid "The Kid" Crosby...not much creativity in that one.

It is a bit odd that Bergeron and Marchand have been dominating the league since 2010/11 and don't have a nickname.

Definitely.
'Tiger' Williams
'The Hammer' Schultz
Stan 'The Demagogue Steamer' Smyl (that might've just been me though)

Line nicknames. Spezza, Alfredsson, Heatley was the CASH line (acronyms) but the one people were using for a little while was Capitol Punishment Line (being in Ottawa) which was my favourite.
Merlot Line was a great name also.

In hindsight - the Statsny's would've been named...
'Drink Up Marion, You're The Weakest' - Line

The Flyers Larry "Issy" Goodenough" was a favorite nickname.

Don't think they were together long or even had an official name but the Flyers briefly had Sittler, Sutter and Sutter (the twins) and it was a tongue twister for the announcer. Was made that much worse when (Ikka) Sinasello was on the ice on D. Can't recall who the announcer was but he sure was tongue tied and his broadcast partner was busting a rib laughing at him trying to get it out.

Try saying it real fast as you think about them passing the puck around on a shift without the other team touching it. Hilarious stuff.

Perfect Strangers

Pitch - how come that never caught on?
Except that line brought in a new foreign character
so it's no longer just Balki (and his famous 'isms') and Larry
and they...

'Jumped The Shark' line.

... oh Oliver, Scrappy Do, Wesley Crusher, Ted McGinley, Pastrnak, Olivia, Billy, DiCaprio, Ricky, that kid from Different Strokes, and of course Seven (which was handled perfectly)

I think the dumbest player nickname right now is "Bread Man." Just because his name sounds like a restaurant?
