Confirmed with Link: Lindy Ruff named Head Coach, Press Conference at 1:00 PM EDT

They hired Lindy because Berube didn't want to come here.
I don't think so. It was ruff all along . If I'm wrong apologies but send link.
Right or wrong old buffalo honor lindy was brought in to establish relationships and have conversations giving everyone inc players to choose old buffalo toughness and honor , singular purpose throughout. Not as a mandate but an ultimate choice by all through endless examples and conversations as a way to overcome all obstacles bullying refs league, manipulated outcomes , fun w puppets and pucks , etc . Lindys first videos show he understands it takes commitment, forgivenesses, new old like 22 tix , bottom tp owner , bottom to top . We'll see if a 64 yr old man can start it and assemble a group to lead by example thaf had buy in from the former drury , peca , brieres to the bottom of our roster to trainers to concessions . We'll see.
I know ruff is as capable as berube , probably more and our guys seem emotionally more men than hughes two years ago. Again. No idea from outside. But so far Ruff understands Buff way more than ANY experienced coach . Ruff trying to win back the hearts of Buffalo spread across the country , we'll see if he has the stamina for details , I believe he does or why take such a task of heavy lifting w all the baggage, only he may truly understand.

I was done watching all sports but ill be aware ( may ...) of the show from both buffalo teams as it heals unites families like a drug break from crushing slavery if done thru the free will of mr ruff and like minded staff like Bills assembled

Wonder if the firing would have happened earlier if the players didn't double down on losing by picking their coach over fans...

I'll always be a Sabres fan but I can't shake the "stay in your f***ing lane" mindset I have towards some of the players

I think that whole thing is overstated.

Its pretty understandable players would want to stick up for the guy they see daily. And if anything it shows some accountability to not simply go along with blaming the coach even if there was truth to the criticism

Based on the locker clean out interviews the players seem to understand the decision, don't think there would be riots if he was let go sooner

Don made a lot of those guys believe in themselves and made them a lot of money. Shouldn’t be a surprise at all they wanted to have his back.

For the majority of us who don't subscribe to the Buffalo News, can you please post some highlights?

He watched a good sampling of the games last season and this was his response:

Here are some quotes that I thought were interesting from the article:

Ruff's top priority, of course, is hockey, but this is quite a different set of circumstances for him. At this point in their tattered history, he is the Sabres' most marketable commodity. More than any of the players. And the team has put him all over social media, on billboards and in sessions with fans and season-ticket holders.

"That's a lot different, really," he admitted. "On the one hand, I've said there's really only one thing I care about, and that's coaching. I'm not really interested in anything else. But my heart's invested in Buffalo. It has been since I got here as a 19-year-old (in 1979). And that's the part that said, 'Damn, I'll take this on.' Because I'm a Buffalonian."

"I believe before you can win, you've got to learn how not to lose," he said. "You have to make the opposition deserve it, and I think we've kind of got to go down that road. I think that the skill is there to score, but can we defend at a high level that can make us a really consistent team? And that has been the conversation with all the players that I've had."

Ruff, a longtime Bills fan, said he enjoyed chatting with McDermott and that coaches can cross sports and share philosophies.

"I've loved their turnaround, and I had some questions for him," Ruff said. "Their defense has been so good at making it tough for the other team to get anything going at times, and that's kind of where we're at. We can be good offensively, and we've got to get better defensively. He was talking a little bit of scheme and the type of players they need to play the system they want, and that's what we're going to be trying to do."

"If you want energy and attitude from players, you have to bring energy and attitude yourself," he said. "You have to be invested in your practices, in your coaching. They have to see that the energy of the coaching staff is equal or greater than their energy.

"They're going to demand that and we're going to demand a lot out of them. The attitude they can control, the amount of effort they put into practice they can control. And then I'm the guy that gets to decide whether that effort is good enough."

Ruff laughed at his own mic drop. He's ready.
