Sean Durzi literally just got 6 Mill AAV. This is nowhere near that bad. Maybe 500k too much, but bottom pair guys like Chatfield got 3 Mill too.

Rasmus Sandin who's been very similar in terms of trajectory is getting 4.6

They need to move salary out of the core to the rest of the team, it's not really controversial. But that is irrelevant to keeping good players.

Makar signed like 4 years ago though. He made 9m in an 81m cap world, which is 11%. Tanev would have to make like 6.8 per to be equal to Makar when he signed.

Tanev was phenomenal last year, but no one wins against father time. That extra mileage playing tough playoff mins is only helpful to Dallas but no way would i count on it going forward.

Looks like Tanev is probably happening. That would give the team 5 NHL D with Timmins as an RFA. Hard to imagine only one significant add to this group.
