TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning are set to take it outdoors when they host the Boston Bruins in the 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union™ NHL Stadium Series on February 1, 2026 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, the National Hockey League and the Lightning announced today. Additional details for the event, including start time and ticketing information, will be announced at a later date when available. This landmark event will be part of a month-long celebration of hockey in the state of Florida, which will kick off on January 2, 2026, in Miami at loanDepot park, home of the Miami Marlins, with the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers taking part in the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic. The first few of these were something different and fun. They were hyped as reminiscing back to when we were young playing outdoors. Maybe its just me, but they don't seem that big of a deal anymore. Especially when many of these kids started in travel programs at six and ever even skated on rivers, lakes or ponds.

I mean its the Bs so I'll watch but I just do not care about these outdoor games anymore. It was cool when it was just the winter classic but now there's like 5 a year. I probably wouldn't even notice if they just stopped doing them entirely.

Awesome!

A (likely) non-competitive outdoor game featuring new never before seen 3rd jerseys in a nationally televised game nobody besides Bruins or Lightning fans will care about!!! I can’t wait!!!

Seriously, the NFL could really take a page out of the NHL’s marketing manual if they ever want that bottom-feeding bush-league to be relevant to the American public.

Those classic aren,t interesting for me. But outdoor game in Florida is just plain strange. Just thinking how the players will feel playing in a +20 Celsius day.... what could go wrong!!!!

I do enjoy me a few days in Florida, but this team isn’t worth traveling to the couch to watch.

The roof is going to be closed almost certainly. Many Bruins fans will be there and much more affordable than in Boston?

Not exactly exciting anymore especially as the visiting team.

I wouldn't worry about the warm climate. They did an outdoor game in California a couple years ago and it went fine. They figured out that you can freeze an ice surface in Hades itself if you ship in enough of those ice plant trucks.

This x100. They're just a gimmick at this point, the novelty has worn off. I have to say I'm kind of surprised that they haven't tried something different, like having all-star weekend outdoors. The AS game is a useless meaningless game, so it's perfect to play outside. It would probably increase viewership as well.

The outdoor game in Lake Tahoe is and will forever be my favorite outdoor game. I thought that venue on that particular day was spectacular. I get why they won't do it again, (and if they did it wouldn't feature the Bruins again) but that just makes it more special in the long-run.

Should of kept it to once per year on New Year's Day. Watered it down significantly with the "Stadium Series".

Yeah I agree. I like the Winter Classic. It's unique and different, and gives hockey its day in the sun (or in the snow!) As a once-per-year spectacle, it works.

But more than that is unnecessary and just waters down the whole concept. The game is not really suited to outdoor viewing or broadcasting, and away from the Classic and all the effort that goes into it, the other games inevitably look makeshift, like some minor sport is cutting in on a place where it doesn't belong.

Once a season is enough. But of course money talks, so here we are.

At least we'll get a (hopefully) cool new jersey out of it. I still can't understand why they don't use the (effin spectacular) Lake Tahoe uni's as their thirds.......hell, I'd go as far as to petition the league to make them the 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘯𝘵 road uniforms.
