"One eye is crying, the other is smiling," says Ingolstadt's sporting director Tim Regan. "The departure of 'Wojo' is a bitter loss not only from a sporting perspective, but also from a human perspective. At the same time, however, pride prevails. His move to the NHL is a great honor – not only for him, but also for us as a club. We thank him for his commitment over the past few years and wish him all the best in his new adventure."
"I loved Ingolstadt – the city, the fans, the organization, the people here. At ERC, I became the player and person I am today, and I'm very grateful for the past years. Now I have a unique opportunity to make my big dream of playing in the NHL come true. I want to take advantage of it. But one thing is clear: I will always keep ERC in my heart," Wojciech Stachowiak is quoted as saying in the ERC Ingolstadt press release.
Oh, God. We're gonna get the Polish Webster in like 2 years commenting about him.Born in Poland, but played for Germany in the WC
He would be the first Polish player for the Bolts. Sascha Goc remains the only German to play for the Bolts (9 games in 2001)
His college hockey numbers are very ECHL coded. A team in a top conference, but barely making the scoresheet. Finally a German signing with the Lightning org!
Born in Poland, raised and learned hockey in Germany, played in the USHL and later for Michigan State in the NCAA but didn’t finish due to Covid and returned back to Germany to play in the DEL. 2023 was his year: He reached the DEL finals with Ingolstadt and won silver with Germany at the IIHF World Cup.
But yeah, he wasn’t a star in the DEL. Top scorers get 70+ points there (the record is 101). Stachowiak’s best season was 34 points in 2023 and he had 30 points this season.
Yeah, it would surprise me if he got even one game with the Lightning next season but we’ll see. They obviously saw something they liked in him and got him signed for a reason. His college hockey numbers are very ECHL coded. A team in a top conference, but barely making the scoresheet.
He does seem to have that dawg in him. He'll perform in Worlds and playoffs.Yeah, it would surprise me if he got even one game with the Lightning next season but we’ll see. They obviously saw something they liked in him and got him signed for a reason.
He had a pretty good playoff run this season in the DEL: 6 goals and 11 points in 12 games. He does seem to have that dawg in him. He'll perform in Worlds and playoffs.
I can't understand you, you're speaking European elitism.I think he was signed just to annoy people who struggle with any name besides Mike Smith and Jack Johnson.
Although as far as Polish names go, that is pretty mild.
Don't worry, most westerners in Europe are just as clueless about that language as you.I can't understand you, you're speaking European elitism.
