Definitely for the best, he's shown flashes but has been struggling a lot of late - definitely think it's better for him to spend some time as the #1 guy down there as opposed to getting incredibly sheltered minutes up here.

I could see this for during the 4 nations break, but not now. Who exactly is better that they are replacing him with in the top 9? He's still the 7th or 8th best F on the team atm. With these next 4 games before the break being rather important, the timing seems very poor unless a trade is happening very soon.

Conor Sheary.

Said no one ever.

He hasn't been producing at all lately, might as well lump the 7-12 forwards all in the same group right now. Playing Atkinson over him while he gets some solid minutes in the AHL isn't going to hurt us any less.

Disagree. Geekie hasn't been doing great, sure, but he's still far more of an offensive threat than any of Atkinson. Ace, or anyone else that's taking his spot in the middle/bottom 6. If it's for cap space accrual to better accommodate an impending trade, fine; if not, it doesn't make alot of sense.

Mr. Offensive threat has 1 point in his last 11 games. This move isn't going to hurt us at all while benefiting the long run.

Yeah I don’t think Geekie is forcing his way onto the lineup with his play, so it’s a simple question of whether it’s better for his development to be here or in Syracuse.

Him being marginally better or worse than another checking liner is small potatoes, it’s more important we don’t screw up the development of a bluechip prospect. Those are things only the coaches and Geekie can decide/know.

I do think Geekie is one of our 12 best forwards, but development path takes precedence and maybe you can count on him being a bit better once he comes back up.

He's still a better offensive zone threat than any of the jokes replacing him. Again, if it's for cap space, it is what it is, but him getting an extra 2 or 3 Crunch games instead isn't helping them in the "long run".

Coop earlier today:
"He's a 20 year old kid that has exceeded expectations. He's done a great job. (The AHL's) a great league to learn and gain more confidence than he already has, so he just has to go down and work on a few things and he'll probably be back at some point. We'll see."
"This was talked about with Geeks in training camp. So, the fact that he was here 50 games is a tribute to him. It's all part of the process, it's all part of the plan. This wasn't stuff that was knee jerk or anything like that. So, everybody knew, and it's about Geeks playing 15 years in this league, not 50 games. That's the goal."
