He's big, so teams want big dman for the playoffs.

Depending on where Chiarot gets traded, another team might panic and overpay for Middleton

Yeah, I think the Sharks should keep their options open. Middleton is exactly the type of player that teams cover for the playoffs, with the bonus that he can actually play hockey pretty well. But absolutely no way we should trade him for nothing.

I'm actually pretty curious what Middleton will go for. Some that's decent, cheap, and likely pretty cheap for a couple/few more seasons will have value to the contenders with limited cap space. He's less established than some forwards that were in similar situations like Goodrow and Coleman, but it's no surprise teams like Tampa, St. Louis, and Boston would have interest.

We need a 2nd round pick so I'd start with that as a hopeful return and see what else there is. Any team that doesn't want to give up a ton on Chiarot can get Middleton much cheaper.

If we trade Middleton, and get a second for him, Ill be happy. Anything more then that would be icing on the cake.

I like him, but at 26 and with only a year in the NHL, and with the current state of the Sharks, I would not be denying a decent pick/prospect for him.

I’m sure you would. You don’t have the available pieces to get him though. Unless you’re making Sandin and your first available, otherwise Sharks have no reason to trade him. Also you’d be dumb to do that trade by the way.

You're right, hopefully we'll be saving those pieces and more for Chychrun, Ferraro is probably your future captain and you should keep him at all costs.

Good for this guy for carving out a spot. I always thought he was destined for the NHL after watching him play junior in Ottawa. Took a while to cement a spot but he's pretty much the ideal #4/#5 guy to pair with a puck mover.

How's Dzingel looked? What would a package with Dzingel and Middleton cost?
Like you’d expect. Third line winger that has a bit of creativity and speed but someone who you shouldn’t rely on for offense. For both I’d probably say two seconds with Middleton being the majority of that (I got his value around a 2nd+4th)

Off the top of my head, similar to a Brendan Dillon replacement. Maybe shoots a little less, but similar playstyle. Was playing the same role Dillon was with Karlsson when he was here.

Good comp, but I think Middleton is more composed with his breakouts. Not what I would call a PMD but makes smart plays with the puck.

Agree. I think he could also cement a bottom pairing, he is a decent enough puck mover to be relied on for that in limited minutes and good enough defensively to not get caved against better comp.

You can't trade guys you claimed on waivers.
Here is what I found on The Hockey Writer’s:

Can You Trade a Player Claimed off Waivers?

Players who are claimed off waivers must be offered to the other teams that placed an original claim before that player can be traded.
For example, if a player is placed on waivers and three teams place a claim on him. The team lowest in the standards gets first dibs. If they then decide to trade the player, he would first have to be passed on by the other two teams. If a team places a claim, he’d be theirs. If not, he can be traded.
