i think ohgren just needs time to find his nhl game. i like what i see so far.
Yeah, he was developing nicely in the AHL. He deserved the call-up for sure. I think he'll be a great middle-six winger and with that shot, he'll play on the power-play, too.i think ohgren just needs time to find his nhl game. i like what i see so far.
Likable player. Doesn’t have great hands or hockey IQ, but he works his ass off and has a good shot. Perfect fit for a team that has a lot of perimeter players who like to make the extra pass. So, nice to see he got a goal in his 1st game back. Hopefully it earns him another start. I am hoping that this is just the beginning, and that he is able improve significantly during the next year or so.
Defin8tely was a pretty one timerLikable player. Doesn’t have great hands or hockey IQ, but he works his ass off and has a good shot. Perfect fit for a team that has a lot of perimeter players who like to make the extra pass.
Give him some time and he might. His season reminds me of Rossi's '22-23 season, where he was good enough to be a point-per-game player in the AHL, but just didn't quite have the physical maturity (speed and strength) to do it at the NHL level. If anything, this season increased my opinion of his NHL-upside. Whether he reaches it or not, I don't know, but I think he can if he works harder than the other prospects around him as Rossi did.Two more goals yesterday. 16g, 14a in 32 gp. Wpould be great if he can bring that production up to the NHL.
His game seems kind of anonymous, to me. I keep coming back to a worse skating, better shooting, Marcus Johansson. Strong enough, and ok size, but by no means a "physical" player. Decent passer, but nothing special. Same with his two way play.Give him some time and he might. He already works harder than Rossi on the ice, so hopefully that motor is the same off-ice. He’s a coach’s son so I expect he will be dedicated in the offseason, but I guess you never really know. His game seems kind of anonymous, to me. Marjo had 27 NHL pts in his D+2 year, 46 the next, so he's ahead of Hogren in that respect.
Rossi's development was a combination of him re-connecting with his talent after a devastating bout of Covid, and a truly unusual dedication to training and improving over and above the norm for most prospects. Would love if Ohgren could do that, but not holding my breath. Most prospects work as hard as everyone else around them (which is pretty hard), then go out and enjoy the summer. Very few have a desperate need to be better than everyone else. It's a kind of character quirk.

On that last bit, we agree for sure, which is why I'm still against trading Rossi this off-season. Maybe wait until he's done developing at age 29 or 30 (because that's when guys with that type of personality do).His game seems kind of anonymous, to me. Well, he is just like Johansson. It's just that everything about him is different. On that last bit, we agree for sure, which is why I'm still against trading Rossi this off-season. Maybe wait until he's done developing at age 29 or 30 (because that's when guys with that type of personality do).
I could be wrong about Ohgren, but I don't like the Johansson comparison at all. He's not nearly as fast as Johansson, he plays a heavier game than Johansson (even if it's not a punishing game), he's worse on the rush than Johansson but better in the corners, he shoots where Johansson passes. The only things they have in common are that they are Swedish and have similar skating strides. Even the result of those strides is different, though. I respect you and your opinions, but on this one I think we just disagree.
I don't get the MoJo comparison either. If anything, Foligno/Hartman is a better comparison. Minus pest element and add in a shooting component.Well, he is just like Johansson. It's just that everything about him is different.![]()
Ah, ok. That makes more sense. If you're referring to the Johansson of the last two years, I disagree about that being his "if we are lucky" level of development, but I think he can certainly reach where Johansson is now, and it's a fairly likely outcome. My point with the Marjo/Ohgren comparison is their effect on a game. I think that Ohgren will end up being about effective as marjo, if we are lucky.
I dunno, the players are still such polar opposites it makes a comparison feel weird. If you had to use any players and wanted to be a pessimist and say Ohgren's skating never develops/regresses, Trenin would be a more apt comparison. Powerforward, simple, can shoot.Ah, ok. not everyone turns into a star, if ohgren becomes a regular 20G scorer im good.
Zuccarello realistically can’t play on a 3rd lineHope for 20+20 consistently with maybe a peak season of 30+30. Get the dude a playmaker on the 3rd line. Better yet, acquire a legit first line wing and put Zucc on his opposite wing.
Why’s that?Zuccarello realistically can’t play on a 3rd line
