Currently top PPG amongst Dmen in the WHL... and has caught the pack.

1 point behind the league lead, but played 7+ less games

I was pretty high on him last year, he was in my final top 15, but I think I’d have him much higher than that at this point.

He is 5 days from being eligible in the upcoming draft. Some of the questions us Ducks fans have been asking is if he would have born a few days later, how high he would go in the upcoming draft? Top-10 is likely I guess.

Also, he is sometimes having ridiculous shot attempt numbers in games. 7 or 8 shots have been multiple times, IIRC.

I wonder where he would go in this Draft (2022) since he's like 5 days from being in it....... What do you guys think?

I wonder how much of a true impact this kid will have. Still think he is a boom or bust prospect. He is impressing though in juniors.
Steel was torching the WHL as well. I share some of those concerns.

However, I think Zell should be good because a) he does have some nasty in him, although he is too small for that to ever be an impact in the NHL, at least there's a clear fight in him; and b) and this is the most important thing, he has a distinguished skill, his skating, that he will be able to use in the NHL for sure.
Of course, the worry will be how can he handle the defense. But if Girard can do it, if Spurgeon can do it, if Lubo (who was so good for the Ducks) can do it, then I believe Zell will be able to as well. But I do not expect him to come into the NHL after the juniors. I would expect 1-2 years in San Diego. And with the rumored new GM in place, he seems to be in favor of giving players more time to prove themselves before they are pushed into the NHL. What I am more worried about is if we have both Drysdale and Zell. That might be too short for defense, but it is way too early to worry about that, it's good to accumulate talent.

Steel was torching it while playing on the same line as overager Adam Brooks. It was a real stacked team.

Although Zellweger's team is deep, I don't think his numbers are that inflated.

Zellweger also made Canada's WJC team at 18, a very big accomplishment. Steel didn't.

If my memory serves me correctly, Steel and Brooks centered their own separate lines at 5on5 and then played together on the top PP unit.

Steel's development was bungled by the Ducks. It's crazy that he never went back to the AHL. His first time in the NHL looked really promising. 6 goals and 11 points in 22 games on a really bad Ducks team.
The problem was he lost his confidence and was never given a chance to get it back. And then somehow the Ducks thought it was a great idea to tell a 21 year old 5'11 180 lb offensive forward to become a defensive specialist.

The Ducks have made some huge mistakes int he past 5 years when it comes to developing their young forwards. Steel might be the worst one though.

I put this in the Ducks prospect forum but figured I would share here as well.

Zellweger is putting together a literally unprecedented season in terms of production, and some how his number only keep going up.

The filter parameters are set to rank all D+1 seasons by defenseman since the 00-01 season by ppg

also will be interesting to see where his plus minus ends the season at. It’s possible he sets a new record for the previously mentioned parameters. However he has missed nine games. He should at least end up close.

So you're saying he might be the second coming of Brenden Kichton?

Looking at this list I'm scared he's not Sam Steeling or Emerson Eteming this (love both of the guys but the expectations they set were too hihgh)

He's having an amazing season no doubt, and I'm a big fan of the player, but the only thing that list should reveal is how bad of an indicator it is for NHL success. Theodore, Barrie and Provorov are the best on the list and no where near the top, and most of the rest are not any guys who have made an impact at the NHL level.

I still see Zellweger as a Girard clone, which is high enough praise I think. If he can have an even larger impact, amazing. He's definitely an interesting case, because if he was born 7 days later this would be his numbers during his draft year.
