SOV D struggled keeping pucks at the point

Bergman -> Iafrate continuum? They're very interesting stylistically...

The lack of foot movement and churn without Bobby Orr really makes this game for a slower one than you'd expect.

What's with the color guy saying twice - on both replays from two different angles - that Petrov's shorthanded goal went into the upper part of the net. It slid in along the ice. Why did he keep insisting that it went up high?

Rod Seiling was annoying to watch in this game. I wonder if his plus/minus splits between the O6 teams and the expansion teams in the 12-team era are available/handy...I'd bet there's a big discrepancy there. I've never been that impressed with him, though I've rarely focused on him.

He was just kind of playing surrogate goaltender or something (not that was uncommon at this time) on the first Soviet goal, fine whatever, when in doubt, be near the front I guess. But someone posted the goal where Kharlamov just posterizes Awrey. As soon as Awrey reaches and misses, Seiling has to start getting ready to support his partner. He doesn't do anything but get there in time to get the puck out of his net.

Yakushev and Mikhailov had really nice games.

It was interesting to see Brad Park get boat-raced by Kharlamov off of a Canada OZ draw. Park was never an amazing skater, but he was so smart, he always made it work. But that 2nd period faceoff was probably the first time he saw him (1:14:35 or so of the video) because he didn't anticipate those first three steps.

Kharlamov is such an advanced player. He's definitely a top 5 player in the world by this point, right? How high is he? Is he as high as 2? I think there's probably a fair case to be made.

Maltsev and the interior Russian D couldn't have done worse on the Clarke goal (Canada's 3rd), one of the bigger whiffs in the game...when Clarke tipped it in, he was the only player on the ice below the dots.

Heh, there's Seiling again, going way outside the dot line giving up the interior for the (5th) dagger goal by the Soviets. What a putrid game from CAN 16.

Did Clarke connect with that wild one hand swing on Blinov as time expired? Jesus that was dirty if it did...

Bumping this thread on occasion of the 50th anniversary.
I was a broke college student from Boston who somehow finagled a ticket at face value ($7.00 CDN)
