OT: Lets talk about stocks (Part 3)

Screenshot_20250407-122644.png

Crazy times we live in.

''There are decades where nothing happens and there are weeks where decades happen'' . Troubling times indeed, 1384 days of this madness left to go.
So far this is quite a minor fluctuation.

It's a long the lines of, there are days where days happen.

I'm proud of myself that I didn't panic sell, but I wish I had more capital, I'd be buying.

@montreal are you still bullish on NLST moving forward?

Stock has come down a lot the last week or so, wondering if now is a good time to swoop in.

yes, this is mostly just noise but it could go sideways for a few months as the CEO said after the last court win vs Samsung that it could be up until the 4th quarter before they actually get the money. So it may struggle until they actually get paid as we are talking 100's of Millions (over 900M I would guess when you add compounding interest on 866M). For reference, in all of '23 they made about 96M and this past year I believe it was 148M or so.

So clearly a huge impact on their balance sheet once they start getting money plus all the up coming trials they still have which were stayed in Delaware and Cali due to the BOC trial that they just re-won for a 2nd time. So those stays should be lifted but I don't know how quickly as nothing in the court system seems to go quickly.

I will pick up some more this week along with CADL, maybe TGTX too.

Todays purchases will be : SCHD, VT, QQQM
I’ll be buying SCHD in my RRSP account only so its dividends won’t be taxed by the IRS. There is an exemption for dividends from US stocks and ETFs so long as they are earned in an RRSP account (further to a US-Canada treaty) but no exemption if you’re buying from a non-registered or TFSA account.

Only buying US growth securities in my TFSA.

as far as individual stocks go, I've been going the route of landlording through REITs like PMZ-UN and REI-UN.

Again you get monthly dividends with REITs. And then Canadian REITs in general have been mostly remained undervalued since COVID. A lot of Canadian REITs are pretty much already at or are close to their 5 years bottom despite cash flow going in the positive direction; so i think it's a really good time to load up on REITs and accumulate more shares through DRIP while stock prices are low.
REI.UN has been looked upon unfavorably due to its joint venture with Hudson’s Bay but that may not be justified:

Liking that dividend yield. Nice investment for my TFSA.

What to expect today? Pre-market is way up. Nvidia back over $100, Tesla $242. Bitcoin almost $80,000

Can't say about today, but I'd be cautious about any short term semblance of recovery. The US-China tariff situation can escalate even further and the EU has yet to vote on retaliatory measures. The EU is expected to vote this week on the measures:

Keep these dates in mind.

You can collect divs in your TFSA tax free. You can also open up a US TFSA and get a much better selection of Dividend stocks to enjoy :)

I expect more tariffs on Canada after April 28th also.

SNP 500 is up 4% today.

The posts from Friday and Monday were premature.

Look at these two clowns.

I think people are expecting either the US or China to blink with the tariff threats. Or it's hopium. Either way if the tariffs stay on or increase, it spells doom for the markets, no way around that. It's just a profoundly stupid economic policy and extremely damaging to the world economy.
