OT: Lets talk about stocks (Part 3)

I don't know man. The knife continues to fall. Is it time to try to catch it?

It looks like it's going to really tank hard today and that's after several days of losses. I have some cash sitting around but my portfolio is getting rocked.

Drill baby drill :sarcasm:! We haven't reached ground zero yet. We might see some circuit breaker action today.

While I think the market will keep goijg down, I remember this exact discourse being the most popular narrative at the bottom of the 2020 Covid crash and the 2022 drop. And when it started going up, "it was just a dead cat bounce". So I suspect a lot of people missed a major opportunity there. So if you have money you won't need for a while, I don't think its a bad idea to buy at the current discount while keeping in mind it will probably still drop.

My unrelated question is: let say Trump somehow cancels all tariffs today. How high does the market go?

We now know for a fact that businesses are at a major risk for at least the next 4 years, where some guy can invalidate all their long term business decisions depending on how he feels that day. And then go back on his word a few days later. Business HATE uncertainty. That has to have an impact on the potential price pf stocks no?

I mean, I really hope that happens. Again though, you don't have to buy at the absolute bottom to successfully play a recovery. If there's a bounce and you don't buy in at the bottom but maybe on the way up, you're still good. But if you're buying into a falling market... that sucks.

We just don't know where this is going. It looks like markets are in for another big red day... again, your guess is as good as mine as to where we go. But I'd be cautious about just jumping in right now. We might have a lot further to fall.

Hard to judge the bottom. You miss as much as you hit. If some good buys out there jump on it. Market always comes back.

Dead cat bounce?

Possible but I don't think I've ever seen in 10ish years this much volatility in such a short period of time for a huge index like that.

Hopefuly it's just a false rumor that spread or something and not some more sinister wall street shenanigans.

There was a rumor floating around that Trump would pause all tariffs for 90 days except for China so maybe it was just that.
