OT: Lets talk about stocks (Part 3)

Fine to discuss the implications of that. There will obviously be overlap. But the whole discussion on Elon Musk or Trump or whatever isn’t going to fly. Just stick to the economic discussion please.
This is the world we're living in right now.

Elon has the one of the most prominent stocks on the market, that you either love or hate at these prices, and Trump is basically threatening the TSLA shorts (which is hilarious, illegal?)

Trump is literally playing hackey sack with the market on the weekly with his comments, seems he might be trying to create a correction in the market?

The world economies are going through something that we haven't seen in the last how many years with Trump's agenda.

I understand you're not a fan of Trump/Elon- they are incredibly divisive individuals, and are literally waging economic war against Canada. I'm not the biggest fan of some of there policies regarding Canada at all.

Buttttt...

Trump/Elon play a huge role in the markets at the moment, feelings aside.. that's just the truth.

And that’s fine to discuss. But there were a lot of comments that went beyond this.

Just so we’re clear, mods delete posts that they agree/disagree with al the time. It’s not about liking/not liking Trump. But HF is very clear that politics is off limits. Obviously there will be overlap but when these things spill into political discussions they’re getting removed. We don’t make the rules, we just enforce them.

non-political video about why TSLA might not be a good buy.

particularly damning is how no insiders at all are buying, while encouraging (begging?) retail consumers to buy. the whole thing has some serious Enron vibes.

Tariffs are going to play a big affect on inflation and stock market.

What Danielle Smith does in Alberta also. If Alberta wants to leave Canada the financial future of our nation will be in upheaval. Carney strengthen ties to Europe union shows he'd taking it seriously. Trump will support her. He wants Alberta oil. Could go to war. Canada offers Europe a lot. Oil mostly but other major minerals. Europe dependant on Russian oil. They may help. If it ties up USA, China may go into Taiwan. Been long rumored. Russia may invade more nations. North Korea could go into South Korea.

Cool.

Discuss the financial implications in terms of stocks. That's what the thread is for. But political talk won't be allowed.

yesterday I upped my position in CADL, it's crazy how cheap it is, they just released great results on their pancreatic cancer druge and next is the results on the lung which are said to be great as well.

Anyone who has cash to play with, what’s your plan? Do we think there is still leg room to go down ? I have a good reserve on hand and I want to start a new holdings account but avoiding ETFs.

I think I’m going to start a position on NVDA again, Costco, AMZN as my big three

There is no way to know how far down it’ll go. I’d just dollar cost average. I’m buying more NVDA, Google and some ETFs this week.

Celestica down almost 20 points. About half of where it was... earnings coming up in a few weeks. This one might be a stock to look at buying on the dip. They've been killing it.
Very bullish about this stock. Plus, buying stocks in CDN funds means no commission on certain apps. It’s trading sub $100 now, I’m buying more today.

Question at large: which Canadian stocks do you like for dividends?

I’m trying to buy less US stocks on account of fees, conversion rate costs and withholding taxes on dividends. I believe the US withholding tax on dividends doesn’t apply if you are purchasing from an RRSP account but it’s still a prohibitive proposition.

Dollarama just hiked their dividends by 15 percent. They're the only stock up today as they crushed earnings. That might be a safe haven for now.

But dude... I'm probably the wrong guy to ask. I'm not a pro, just a guy buying and selling. I sold some Celestica and made some profit, same with some other stocks. But I'm underwater today on a bunch too.

I've held onto most of my Celestica because I believe it will bounce back but I'd have been smarter to sell it all and then buy back in. Anyways, earnings are in a few weeks. I'm just going to stick with my position and see where it goes.

I’d hold and buy more. There’s a bit of a falling knife syndrome at the moment but if you’re a long term investor, it’s a great play.

Here’s why: Celestica: The Most Important AI Stock You’re Probably Not Aware Of

I bought more on the last dip and sold when they crushed earnings. I'm thinking about doing it again... but sometimes it doesn't matter. When the overall market tanks, it can take on a life of it's own. Who's to say it can't fall further?

I've got a good position there. If it falls further I may jump in but I want to see where this goes first. I mean it was down 20 points at one point today. The market may take another dump tomorrow...

My order just went through. If it drops more tomorrow, I’ll buy more. If you’re buying with money you don’t need and not on credit, it makes easier to invest. I love that it’s a CDN stock.

Answer would be all of them. Buy an ETF like XEI or VDY and collect monthly dividends.

Just bought a starter position in my new long account on : NVDA, AMZN, APPL . Will keep accumulating. Hopefully all works out in a year plus lol
how do you expect tech companies like Apple to bounce back knowing everything they sell just got a lot more expensive to produce?

and iPhone sales were already trending downwards btw
