OT: Let's talk about Movies and TV Shows, Part XXX (...how can this possibly go wrong)

I was going to reply "that's a mofo'ing exageration. Coming outta the womb is where he peaked", but then I remembered Tropic Thunder, and have to admit he was pretty good as Jeff Portnoy, or maybe he didn't have to do a whole lot of acting for that role.
School of Rock is pretty great tho I thought after staying away from it so many years
Nobody else could of pulled off that one lol

I hate that guy , he peaked around Shallow Hal
Cmon dude. You hate JB? I mean i can understand his style not being your schtick, but hating him is quite a bit harsh. Dude is great with fans, doesn't have any controversies, and overall has been a staple of Hollywood in a positive way for years. Dude is like the Nickleback of Hollywood; gets a lot of unfair hate. I can think of a lot of other Hollywood personalities that deserve hate, but JB ain't one of them.

I started watching some old 80's shlock (back when getting movies done was a lot easier)

- Night of the Comet. 28 days before it was 28 days. Liked the concept. Low budget, low production and some pretty bad acting. Gotta admire the ambition though.
- Primal Rage (1988 version). This was awful in almost every way. Bad writing, bad plot, bad acting, crappy effects. Just awful stuff all around. I'd recommend to just watch the last kill because it was unintentionally hilarious. Just so goofy.

Next on the list:

- Heavenly Bodies
- The legend of Billie Jean
- Action Jackson

Yeah, in a side role he was tolerable

But he's just doing his 'singing' thing , nothing original. Not the worst movie for sure

I don't fawn over celebs, they are all pretty useless in the grand scheme of things.

That being said , you may enjoy the following movies based on your movie interests

School Ties, Say Anything, Witness, A Perfect Murder

Never heard of School ties but it's from the 90's so that's probably why.
Say anything is a classic. I'm watching schlock right now. You're making recommendations of movies that are probably good. Now do that, but the opposite.

FYI, not talking about fawning over celebrities (and JB looks like a hobo, it would be weird to fawn over him). Just talking about hatin' on them. Seems like a waste of energy.

My cameraman cousin warmly reccomended the "Passion of Joan of Arc", as an "understated for the time, subtle, black-and-white drama of the highest level" and borderline masterpiece/must-see movie to the cinephile that I am.

Die Passion der Jeanne d'Arc (1928) ⭐ 8.1 | Biography, Drama, History

I watched it, and he was right to recommend it to me, now onto you.

What the filmakers managed to do with so little is pretty freaking good.

The actress that played Joan was especially mesmerizingly good, her expressions were very vivid and on-point (woman is a beast of an actress).

Anyways, it might be worth a watch for those interested in the History of Cinema, or those who just like good acting.

You forgot to mention it's a silent film. That might turn off some people. But I agree with you and your cuz, it's a brilliant flick.

I'm just a big heavy metal fan. It's the main reason Little Nicky will always be my favorite Sandler movie even if they age pretty badly.
Did you watch Rock Star or .. I know you watched Almost Famous, right? The Metallica documentaries were fun too

I think you took it a bit too literally tbh. I don’t hate the person, but I do hate his acting and generally avoid anything with him in it and immediately file it in the I’m not interested section. I don’t think anyone wants bad things to happen to him or anything like that, but as an actor he sucks.

You know.... I do movies a littlle bit...I do commend outstanding performances...

Gosling's groans/ moans in the only scenes that matter really are unescapable.

Shallow, low crotch-grabing TV? Yes. But it's good.

P.S. Yes, The Gray Man

Let's face off with the best axction movies of say....last 5 years. The Gray Man will make the list assuredly.

What are we doing here? Blaiming it for being hyper-stylized? ROugh editing bits? Yes, on both. But it's as much of a driver as I've seen in years.

50th anniversary of Jaws. We had a viewing party tonight. (I made some Jaws cocktails with blue curaçao and shark gummies.) Some hadn’t seen it or hadn’t seen it in a long time. Tons of screams, tons of laughs. That movie still holds up. Just awesome.

Ballparks across the major leagues had Jaws drinks today, there was a celebration in Martha’s Vineyard and tons of articles on it.

Tarantino calls it the best movie ever made. I agree with him.
