OT: Let's talk about Movies and TV Shows, Part XXX (...how can this possibly go wrong)

looks ok
we see
the 100th time they have tired this
better work this time.

Marvel also seems to have toned down the DEI. They finally figured out the profit losses are worth more than the ESG corporate virtue signaling tax breaks.

My wife is gonna be stoked. She's a massive Buffy fan.

Wont make their movies better. Even if you fill them with 40-50 years old white men with a woman making them sandwich in the kitchen it wont make the movies better unless you spend $$$ to hire talented sscreen writers and directors. As long as they target PG-13 and G their movies will **** and they'll continue to do that since they are a big publicly traded company. <---- this is the real problem

Tbf I still see a ton of DEI in there

Pascal - too old Chilean brother of a trans
Kirby - too old, ugly
Ebon - hyphenated last name, likely childhood trauma
Quinn - gay

Hauser - obese
Lyonne - drug addict
Garner - married to presumably bad musician
Niles - black
Malkovich - maniac

Ironically, genuine DEI would actually boost profits. Look at the money Netflix made with Squid Game for example, they just allowed someone from another culture to tell their story, not some stupid Bennetton shit that American liberals love.

The thing with DEI in entertainment is it's not really DEI. It's more capitalism than DEI. Those billionaires don't give a damn about DEI. They are big publicly traded companies. They want to make the least expensive movies that will appeal to the largest audience. So they cheapen out on screen writers, directors and special effects. They'll include a black guy there and a woman there. They will pretty much never go over PG-13. This is basically capitalism 101. As long as people pay for bad movies bad movies will keep being made. If it's better marketing to not have women anf black guys they'll stop including them in their movies but make no mistake those movies will still suck.

What made movies of the past better was not the white muscular men or the silent beautiful white and blond love interest. Those were inconsequential and the product of a time period. What made them better was simply better scripts, better directions and better more grounded to earth special effects. It always make me laugh to see kids complaining about wokeness in movies and then gloating over Terminator 2. It's one of the wokest movie ever made in the history of cinema. But it had a solid script and one of the best director of all time and grounded to earth special effects.

Saw this mini-series, as usual anything relating to the IRA I find is captivating. I was a kid when the shit was going down but remember one of my buds older brothers went to '' The Troubles ''

Was introduced to a man and he mentioned he was planning to sail solo to the south pacific ( from New Zealand ) so I told him to check out this movie. And this is why you'll never see me do something like that, not alone anyways. Sure I'm fine solo for a few hours or an overnight even with the mrs, but no way going alone that far from a land sighting.

 I actually love Matador. I thought Brosnan did well as a villain. He was even more despicable in the movie "Shattered" with Gerard Butler. I literally wanted to smash my TV! I guess it's a good sign that someone does its job well. lol
You liking it is not surprising, not much surprises me anymore. It's as if somehow the world has been indoctrinated to poor taste. How else can you explain the massive appeal for Taylor Swift? even tried listening to a few hit songs, doesn't make me want to dance or party or anything, made me and the mrs gag some, but if I want the mrs to gag,I got more thrilling ways to make that happen. :DDJust look at the constant bombardment of super hero movies, like seriously, are so many stunted when pre-pubescent? The less said about those so-called reality shows the better, people must be really bored AFAIK. And don't get me started on the man-bun or people that wear crocs:rant:. I'm sure that if you try hard enough, you'll find that a maggot infested acrid heaping steaming pile of shit that some will find appetizing. I would not be surprised that many of those that are into that stuff also have scopophilia. Sorry about that, got all hot and bothered there for a bit.All jetlagged out still and at my friends coffeeshop there was a group of obnoxious loud-mouthed American women that were super annoying and when I got in the mrs said she wants to get a peacock, WTF?:surrender but back to the movie. We did not find it funny at all and it had serious moments which was awkward and it was all so unbelievable. I don't recall meeting any assassins that were that annoying and so unlikable, most are usually pretty chill fun guys.:thumbu::thumbu:

That has to be the best post I've ever seen.

I mean you mentioned being tired of big super-hero movies but little movies like The Matador are sort of the remedy to that. It's not polished like a Marvel movie, it doesn't cut off the edges like big commercial movies do but at the same time that's the appeal, you know? Sure it make you uncomfortable but at the same time characters-wise it's more interesting than big commercials movies made for teenagers.

Plus I am a huge fan of both Greg Kinear and Pierce Brosnan so it was treat for me seeing two of my favorites sharing a screen together. What I like about movies like these is all they needed to make it happen was good actors, a good script and a few unexpected things and you go shoot it. No big CGI fests. I call them "characters study". Plus seeing Brosnan as a villain was interesting for me to watch.

I think you probably were not in the mood when you watched it? I bet if it show on TV once in a while you'll think "you know what, it wasn't too bad". It happened to me so many times. Like The Big Lebowski for example. When I first saw it I was like "meh". Then I watched a few scenes there and there over the years when it showed on TV and those scenes made me laugh. And I was like "maybe I misjuged this movie". And then I rewatched the whole thing and now it's one of my favorite movie.
