Since it seems like Fleury could end up in Toronto why not bring some friends along ? Connor Murphy and Jake McCabe could be packaged as the Blackhawks are in rebuild mode now. They haven't had their best years ,probably because the whole team was in turmoil under Jeremy Colliton. This needs some real work done to it but it could be a winning ticket for Toronto. Possibly FLEURY , MURPHY , McCABE for HOLL , MRAZEK , DERMOTT , Roni Hirvonen , 2ND RD , 1ST RD . Opinion's ,tweek's . With Chicago retaining half of each guys salary of course.

Not sure what Murphy's health status is... but simplify...

To Chicago:
- Toronto 1st round pick (for Murphy)
- Justin Holl or Travis Dermott (for Murphy)
- Alex Steeves, Nick Abrusseze, or Roni Hirvonen (for Murphy)
- Petr Mrazek (for Fleury)
- Toronto 2nd Rounder 2022 (for Fleury)

To Toronto:
- Murphy (Full Salary)
- Toronto 3rd 2022 (Slightly less value for Murphy)
- Fleury (50% Retained)

No love for Jake McCabe ? Solid physical . With McCabe , Murphy and Fleury gone and Mrazek in net the tanking will be easy. Leafs may have to add a touch more.

Leafs don't have the pieces, or the cap space, for all 3.

Chicago is also not going to retain salary on Connor Murphy for the next 4 years, or Jake McCabe for the next 3.
No they wont .but they could be convinced to retain for next year as well ,giving Leafs a decent window of opportunity. Add Mathew Knies and take McCabe .

You can't retain for only a portion of the contract. It's all years or no years. They don't have the cap space to accomodate both McCabe and Murphy next yera.

Leafs aren't going to trade Knies given his rapidly rising status and how he fits something they've been missing for years.

I mean I feel like we're robbing them, why does Chicago say yes to this ? 1st + Hirvonen are the only things of real value going to CHI . Holl is meh, Dermott is bad, Mrazek is dog shit with a horrible contract.

I think the Leafs need to figure out what to do with Liljegrin and Sandin, and to a much lesser extent, Dermott.

This is just not a recipe for a 3rd pairing in the NHL playoffs. Sandin (due to lack of speed) and Dermott (turnover) literally cost the Leafs two playoff games last year and it seems as though nothing has been learned. Whatever combination of the three you throw out there will be taken advantage of in matchups.

I would attempt to package one of Liljegrin/Sandin for an upgrade for the top 4, acquire a more seasoned player for the 3rd pairing, and keep Dermott out of the top-6. Leafs are playing the game where they are trying to get outsized value from developing players on ELCs and its costing them dearly (though they sure hit a home run with Bunting).

Way out of balance, Leafs add a lot to compensate for the huge amount of retention you’re asking for and also to dump Mrazek’s contract.

Do you think Chicago would retain 50% salary on useful defensemen for 3-4 years (at a combined 4.2m dead cap space hit for 3 years! & 15.3m in total actual salary paid by Chicago!) for a garbage goalie signed for 2 years/3.8m, Holl (crap one year & then a UFA), Dermott (fringe 25 yo LHD), one lesser prospect, a 1st and 2nd.

Oh, and you get Fleury too.

As a neutral party, lolololol.

Is that some kind of a shipyard icebreaker or what is that contraption?
I'm assuming it is. To be honest, after seeing thread title I just googled "huge plow" and that was the biggest picture that came up. Impressive piece of gear -- cannot imagine the HP it takes to make that thing go!!!!

Edit: Found the picture again and this is what it was listed as: "RR PRINT DENVER & RIO GRANDE WESTERN DRGW WEDGE SNOW PLOW"

Asking a team to retain ANY type of salary for 2-3 years is a monumental request... especially if they're not really the primary beneficiary of the deal.

-Chicago retaining on Fleury? I think that's probably just a forgone conclusion for all parties involved.

-Finding a 3rd team to retain on Fleury? likely realistic given that it's only for a few months.

-If Murphy of McCabe had 1 full season left, then perhaps they might be willing to retain.... Chicago knows they're not going to be good next year anyways.

-Chicago retaining on Murphy & McCabe for 3/4 years, who are both clearly worth their contracts? not happening.

-Finding a 3rd party, to retain on either of these guys, even less likely than "not happening".

Really? Huh? That’s quite a plot twist I didn’t see coming.

Then he needs to know that NHL teams don’t like paying 15.3m of real money and saddling themselves with 4.2m cap hit for barely anything in return.

If you take out what the return for Fleury at 50% and the crap goalie they’re taking back… I don’t see what the return for those two defensemen at 50% even is exactly, but it’s not nearly enough.
