Mods. I looked and couldn't find anything in the rules against this. If I'm mistaken I apologize, but hope we can leave it for a while anyway.

I think we all know of the great work that the Garden of Dreams Foundation does. I thought it would be a good idea if we could come together and try to raise some money.

Target
We don't have to set a huge target, and I really don't know how many would want to contribute, but if we get 40 posters to chip in $25
each that's $1000. I think that would be realistic.

How much do I donate?
That is entirely up to you. On the donations website you can select from a range of amounts from $25 to $1000, but you can also enter your own amount.

I understand that the economy is bad for a lot of people and also that we have a lot of young guys still in school here. Any donation helps. $10 would absolutely be a good donation too.

How do I donate
Just complete the form on the G O D donations website. You can choose to give the donation in honor or memory of someone. I elected to donate in honor of Liam Traynor.

Can we sticky this thread?

It would be great to say if the rangers do X or Z i'll donate Y

Donations
+Rangers make the playoffs: $10
+Rangers make it to 2nd round: $20 (+$10)
+Rangers make SCF: $30 (+$10)
+Rangers win the cup: $40 (+$10)

+Rangers finish top 5 in the conference: $15

Sure. But for the sake of keeping the updating the first post a simple task, post your donation after you complete the transaction.

If you want to set conditions on the donation, post that first, but post again for each completed transaction.

Hope this get's some traction

If I wasn't broke as ****, I totally would. School is unfortunately expensive.

Sometime last year I was preparing my will. I'm dividing it between family and various charities. Being a lifelong Ranger fan and seeing all the Garden of Dreams foundation does this was naturally one of my choices, All the charities that I or my attorney contacted were obviously thrilled to be on the receiving end of this potentially substantial gift. Except the Garden of Dreams. No one answers the telephone. You leave a message on a voice mail. Finally after over two weeks and two or three messages someone called me back. Basically, he was an idiot. He didn't know anything, couldn't answer any questions, had no clue what to say. I suggested to him that someone more experienced should get back to me. No one ever did. I finally gave up and called the Make a Wish foundation. I spoke to the attorney for Make a Wish and discussed with her how I would like the money used. I even mentioned to her how disappointed that I was in the Garden of Dreams being a huge Ranger fan. She immediately said that she worked closely with the Garden of Dreams and would be more than happy to contact them to try to help me out. Imagine that. She was going to forego my contribution to help me contribute to the Garden of Dreams because she knew that's what I really wanted. Well it didn't make any difference because she couldn't get anyone from the Garden of Dreams to contact me either so I stuck with Make a Wish. So the Garden of Dreams lost out on a 6 figure donation because they wouldn't make any effort at all.

i don't understand.
you don't have 10 dollars to put in now?
why make it conditional on the way the team plays? the money goes toward a good cause win or lose!

This is upsetting, but for some reason does not surprise me.

I'll be making a donation shortly. On a related note, does anyone know of any Garden of Dreams events in the upcoming future? Something like Casino Night but maybe slightly less expensive.

I think the conditions make it more fun! But I think we can have more fun with it than just making playoff conditions. For example I'm thinking of doing:

5 dollars for every Rangers win this season
5 dollars for every MSL goal this season
30 dollars if Hank reaches 30 wins
22 dollars if Brian Boyle is the 1st star in any game (might as well make it 22,000 :sarcasm:)

Anyone else have some creative ideas?

Question: is this tax-deductible?

It is. After a donation you get an automatic tax receipt which can be used when doing your tax report.

Edit: Please note that I am not a US resident and not overly familiar with US tax law, so there may be exceptions that I am not aware of. Their website does state:

While providing underprivileged children the opportunity to come to the Garden, your contribution is also tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
