You said they should, it's a personal choice, they should have the choice. The visor rule is hella lame.
Yup, should be able to choose whether or not to wear a helmet too. Personal choice used to mean something. now you can’t even smoke cigs on the bench anymore.

Nowhere in the rulebook does it say anything about blood. The term in the rulebook that determines whether it's a double minor is "injury." Somewhere along the way, probably because injuries to the face area usually involves blood, refs started calling it as if the deciding factor was whether the player was bleeding.
I've been saying this for years. Blood does not mean an injury, yet the NHL decided that for this particular thing it does. When Ovechkin was on mic saying "maybe he has soft skin" after a ref called a 4 min on a Capital, it was hilarious but also kind of accidentally a good point.

It's always funny when libertarianism runs head-first into private sector business practices.

I get the point, the blood thing is kinda silly. Anyone familiar with combat sports knows that some people just bleed easier and a softer grazing hit might cut someone more often than a hard direct hit. That said, shouldn't there be a difference if you hit someone in the helmet vs face? Should they review it instead? Should they review every single penalty, since apparently the refs are terrible?

Anyway there are way bigger problems in hockey that should be fixed first before this.

Except nobody would choose not to wear a helmet, a small number of guys would choose to not wear a visor.

NHL will never replace the refs with AI since that basically cause everything to be a penalty. You want to slow the game down to the point it makes the game even LONGER cause of too many stoppages.
3 days ago, I would agree.

I was listening to a radio interview of the Maryland Terps Basketball coach the other day .. and he sd they use AI to forecast how transfer players might play/fit in their upcoming season

If no budget Terps are using AI for scouting and forecasting ... f*** us all, were screwed

What I've always hated about high sticking penalties is that they happen sometimes when the stick is carried at waist height....so if I player trips over and his head is at your waist height and you hit him in the face with your stick, it's a high-sticking penalty. Never made sense to me....stick isn't high. The rulebooks is clear though, it references being above the "opponents shoulders".....but doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Maryland Terps basketball coach starts his ex-wife because ChatGPT told him she's strong on the perimeter

I'd rather have an easy to explain decipher objective rule that sometimes makes mistakes, than a completely subjective rule that would end up with every call being questioned over and over since it's open to interpretation.

At least make it so the “injured” player cannot be on the ensuing 4 min PP

Somebody gets a stick to the lips and causes blood so its a double minor but that same player is on the ice for the PP

Good lord you completely miss what i said... AI is programed based what it was coded to do its not designed to think. Everything would be a penalty under AI and you get very very long games cause of stoppages every 30-40 seconds cause of AI calling a penalty.

It would be a disaster. AI can not replace what the human eye can see and judge themselves.

A good deal of the e problem with AI is the overuse of the term to refer to far different activities/processes. I have an uncle who references chat gpt to try to argue that AI will replace agriculture workers, not understanding what chat gpt does and that even better AI has a bad grasp of worldly referents, which is important when letting AI take over actual activities that result in life or death.

No it won't. People just attach "AI" onto everything and make assumptions. The problem with this is that there isn't accountability for an AI. What viewpoint is an AI going to have that allows it to call penalties? The broadcast on TV where they are limited to specific angles right? Well there's a lot you miss just watching a game live on TV.

There's too much nuance even watching the game live or being literally on the ice with human eyes as a ref. AI isn't touching that.

A good example with the use of AI is self-driving cars. Sure, I might agree with the argument that self-driving cars are better drivers than people driving drunk or while on their phone. But that's a horribly low bar.

Guys like you act like if they're going to wear a cage they may as well put on a dress too don't help anything. Cages are fine.
Seems like a terrible idea from a marketing standpoint. It’s dehumanizing in a way, though not typically the way people use that word. Hard to market your stars if you make them even more unrecognizable.

It's already the most poorly marketed league of the big 4. Toss a cage on these guys and show their faces as much as they do in the NFL.

The better critique I've heard of against the cages is that guys get way more flippant with high sticks and such when everyone has a cage on. I'm not sure how true that would be in the NHL and not sure how the NCAA currently experiences it.
