That is some real quantity. Some will amount to nothing, others will play hundreds of games for us. Now we just need a few high picks (that we dont fan on), and we got a good core for contenting in a few years.

Comparing this to what for example Oilers had when they started they rebuild almost 10 years ago we are in amuch better position. It shows how important it is to start the rebuild premptive, not waiting until u are in the bottom 3 of the league by just your players beeing bad.

Only one that looks bad, ATM, is the Zucc deal (obviously depending on who NYR gets with those picks). It could benefit NYR if those conditions are met, but it doesn't seem likely.

Other than that, I'm happy!!

Have to consider, they paid that for him as a rental for 22-30 games, seems like fair value. (AND if he likes it there and resigns, we get a 1st).

If we could have gotten a 1st straight up from someone for Zucc that would have been done already. Atleast now we got something.

Like I said in the Zucc trade thread....

I get that. With the rebuild, the Rangers need to get something out of a potential UFA. Losing Zucc for nothing would've been even worse for the organization. Same goes for Hayes, McQuaid and others....

But the fact that he's been a consistent 50 point playmaker for the Rangers and got that kind of return is ridiculous, even if he's a rental. The way he sees the ice and is responsible in all three zones definitely deserves a guaranteed 1st rounder. No question. I'm not even talking about the fan-favorite aspect with the Rangers, but the way he plays (offensively gifted vision, grit with antagonizing traits, PK/PP strengths, consistent 50 point production in 5 seasons, etc.) he's a wizard with the puck. There is literally NO ONE in the organization that has that kind of ability, ATM. Kravtsov could become something like that, but that isn't a sure thing until he starts playing with NYR. To make matters worse, they even retained salary on him (even though that doesn't matter in the slightest long term). It's almost like Gorton did Dallas a favor.

I knew Zucc was getting moved, but this was a massive slap in the fanbases face and the organization should be ashamed with that kind of return.

Got it, but when one says "evaluate the rebuild" the trades are just one piece of the puzzle.

Yup. Part of the trades/rebuild is also being able to draft higher. You never know if we would have been able to draft Kravtsov if we didn’t make those trades.

So whats the verdict guys?

Personally i think the Nash trade that became K'Andre Miller and Ryan Lindgren was great.
A bit disapointed in the return from Tampa, but Libor Hajek, please prove me wrong :)

Its hard to answer. This is not how you evaluate a rebuild. This is just personnel.

They got bent over on the McDonagh trade. Sold low on an injured player. Everything else has been solid.

Agreed. Sort of the precursor to the “look at all these names” posts to justify that things are on the up and up.

Its really just too early to tell, but if I’m being honest, I would’ve liked to see a little more from the younger players on that list.

Really hard to make a determination with that list this early in the rebuild but I think Gorton has to start getting some proven prospects rather than just draft picks or this rebuild could be a lot longer than we all hope.

Kravstov and Miller are. They have #1 D/#1 winger potential.

Unless you are saying like a franchise type player?

Rebuild is just 1 year old at this point as well.
Since Goton personally mentioned the Step trade as the start, I think we should all refer to that as the beginning.

Just nitpicking because it's still very early but that IS what Gorton said.

I'd go about it, without going too deep into the drafts

2014 draft DeAngelo
2016 draft Howden, Hajek, Lindgren
2017 draft Lias, Chytil
2018 draft Kravtsov, Miller, Lundvist

DeAngelo if he works out, he may have gone higher in his draft
Howden and Hajek likely go higher in a redraft than they did, Lindgren who knows
Chytil likely goes higher than he did, Lias who knows
Kravtsov, Miller likely go higher too, Lundvist who knows.

If the 2019 draft and possibly the 2020 draft go as such, if not better, that is a rebuild that has added more decent, if not better than decent prospects than anything the Rangers have ever done to my knowledge.

I like the trends there.

If we go back a little further and decide to include the Zbad trade, it looks even better.

What comes out of Shestyorkin, Buch could also lend to the Rangers maybe drafting better than that draft slot indicates

I have some concerns still about the elite/near elite stuff even with all that being said, yet I'm also not going to totally discount that possibility.

If one believes in the anything can happen idea pertaining to a team entering the playoffs, I'm not sure how that anything can happen idea would not also apply to the draft/prospects. Both carry somewhat low odds of actually happening, yet the draft/development path is likely to lead to at least assets which could be used one way of another towards the eventual anything can happen in the playoffs.
