Speculation: Let's discuss the improbable (yet perfect fit) - Crosby to Habs

I don't see why Crosby would stay around a lottery team that is getting older, not better. He's still a terrific player, but if he wants a sniff at a Cup again in his career it will be with another team. Also don't see why PITT wouldn't be OK with it. He would net back some nice pieces.
Does Crosby seem like a Kevin Durant-esque team-hopping glory seeker?

Like, what in his history suggests he's anything but both fiercely loyal and unafraid of the process of being part of building a contender from the ground up?

considering the cost its better to go after him for free in terms of assets when hes an UFA than overpay for him

Personally I’m not a fan of either club. As a fan of watching hockey (on tv) it would be beyond amazing to see the Bell Centre when Cosby is introduced for his fist game as a Hab. And then the electric atmosphere as he leads the Habs on a playoff run!!!! Okay, I’m being somewhat selfish but if getting Crosby only cost 16 + 17 + Reinbacher + ? I’d hope the Pens would accept.
For me Rein is off limits. RD is a massive hole. I'd maybe consider Hage but with less picks than Beck.

16th + 17th + 2026 1st ( top 3 protection) + Beck

or

16th + 17th + Hage + 2026 2nd

The Habs need a veteran presence, and they also need a 2nd line center, Newhook can skate but that's about it. Crosby grew up being a Habs fan, and father was drafted by the CH. Crosby would be a perfect mentor to kids like Slaf, Demidov and Caufield.

Crosby is 37 Years old, and although he will fetch a good haul for the Pens, it's not like he's in his mid twenties.

The Penguins are going downhill fast, and seems like Dubas will finally be given the green light to rebuild.

What does it take for the Habs to snag Crosby?

What if the price includes slaf, demidov or Caufield +?

He's not being traded. I don't know how many times he needs to say "I'm only interested in playing for Pittsburgh" for Habs fans to realize he doesn't want to play for your team.
He is never going to say anything else. Why would he say, well yeah after I break Mario’s franchise records and if the Pens are mediocre I would be fine taking one last run at it with my childhood team. He would never say it, doesn’t mean it won’t.

BINGO, of course he will say he always wants to be a Penguin....
Except any of the local beat reporters have continually been adamant that all of the speculation is complete horseshit and Crosby is staying.

Unless you’re a psychic or know something the rest of the universe doesn’t, it’s complete nonsense speculation

Well, according to what I know from Crosby's personality, he's certainly not the kind to held a politician discourse.

If he said it, it's because he thought it.

But, there's a but, you can be sure that the Pittsburgh Penguins will ask him the question and, inform him which teams would be interested in the outcomes that there's some openings from Crosby.

Its no secrets the Pens need to rebuild and Crosby would fetch them a great building block return, if they traded him.

And its no secrets Crosby's a great competitor. He's a consummate winner.

Trading him would be a win-win situation and they could present things to him in a way that him being loyal to the franchise that drafted him, could be to help them in the long run by accepting being traded, all while getting the opportunity to win it all again, elsewhere.

My point is that accepting being traded could be sold to him in a way that fits his values and his more short terms self interests, at the same time.

Ownership and Dubas will never ask him to be traded. Just not gonna happen

If he wanted to go I'd have no problem with it. He's still an elite player, just finished top 10 in scoring with 91 points. I would understand if he wanted to compete for a cup or at least play in the playoffs again. And a couple of first rounders would be good for the rebuild.

But he's dead set on staying with the Penguins. And i welcome that as well. He's a franchise legend and his leadership in mentoring the next generation has a value of its own.
