Speculation: Let's discuss the improbable (yet perfect fit) - Crosby to Habs

If Crosby agreed to go to the Habs it would be very hush-hush until the deal was done because the Habs would have to match the Pens ask, which would be the equivalent of four firsts. If they didn’t come up to that price then nothing would happen and hear nothing about it.

Don't be so narrow minded, do you really think Sid wants to wallow on a last place team for the rest of his career? Do you not think that Dubas wants to get a huge return for one his sole top asset in order to rebuild?

Ray Bourque was the top Bruin of all time, but wanted to go play for a contender and the Bruins obliged.

Yes, there is that obvious link between Ray "Never Won a Cup in Boston" Bourque and Sidney "Hey Look I Have Three" Crosby. It's consistently amazing how threads like this only ever crop up about one player.

"Well he deserves one more shot at a cup!"

Sure he does. If wants to leave the Pens for that reason I'd have zero grudge about it. But all evidence points to him not wanting to do that. So why is it that he has earned the right to win another cup but somehow has not earned the right to make his own decisions on where he wants to be?

Yeah, my max would be 1st this year + top 5 protected next year + Beck/Roy/Kapanen + Mailloux/Engstrom + another throw in,
People here thinking 4-6 first rounders are delusional.

Crosby is a legend, but he's 38 starting to start next season. He will inevitably decline very fast from now on.
For sure you’re entitled to your opinion. Imo even if the two clubs discussed a trade, unless it actually happened we wouldn’t (as the public) get to know those discussions even took place. That’s the level of player Crosby is. And that costs.

What would it take?

A couple more concussions so that he'd completely forget that he's repeatedly said that he only wants to play for Pittsburgh...?

1. Yes considering he has only ever confirmed his desire to stay

2. No, considering Crosby means too much to the franchise and has earned the right to do whatever he wants. Not to mention Dubas has already done a decent job of restocking the prospect pool, and is only going to add to it given they have the most draft picks in the upcoming 3 drafts. Not to mention, Sid is basically the perfect person to mentor all of those prospects that'll be coming up within the next couple years

3. As has been mentioned, Bourque was chasing his first cup

Honestly, you and the Penguins would be delusional not to explore the possibility, you have an anemic prospect pool and a bunch of aging players. I'm not knocking the Pens, just being realistic. Why would Dubas just sit there and watch Crosby age out? Everyone in hockey knows they will not get back to the playoffs with this core, as great as they were.

Because Crosby is a generational player and icon that means more to the franchise and city than any combination of prospects or draft picks could. He's not just a name and stats on a page.

Where did he say that?

I would love to see the quote where he says he wants to be a one-team player.

It is really, REALLY not that hard to find Crosby displaying his commitment to staying in Pittsburgh for the duration of his career

Crosby says he wants to stay with Penguins for rest of NHL career | NHL.com.

"Nothing's changed," the Penguins captain said. "[The rumors are] definitely kind of a new subject that I've had to deal with and hear about a little bit. But I love playing here. This is where I'd love to play for the rest of my career. So I can't really control what's said or rumors or things like that, but that's just kind of how I approach it."

Crosby Looks Back on Missing Playoffs: ‘We Didn’t Earn it’

“I’d love to,” Crosby said of playing the rest of his NHL days with the Penguins. “That’s been the case since Day One. I’ve been fortunate to have been drafted here and (have) great memories. Got to play with two teammates specifically (Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang) for a really long time. So I’d love that to be the case.”

Dave Beeston, co-head of Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Penguins, said during a press conference Friday that “it’s very important that Sidney Crosby never plays a game in another uniform.”

1. Crosby is not getting traded
2. If he is, it's on his terms and he changed his mind
3. Not for 4 1st rounders. If it was prime Crosby, ok sure.
4. It would be for 1st+A grade prospect+Established player. Probably more like two firsts but that would be max value.
5. We're talking about a 37yo Crosby with not much left

And 6. Probably not on Montreal. More like Colorado.

HFboards and their tendency to overrate trades.

Also who knows. Of course playees always saying I want to stay. Who would say openly hey I wanna leave.

Demidov + Reinbacher

Don't like it? Fine. We'll will keep Sid.

All kidding aside, I think it would stay something absurd like that for Dubas to overrule the wishes of a franchise player like Sid.

Hell Crosby has shown he doesnt care about winning again, so maybe playing in a Habs sweater for a year may do it.

Reinbacher would fill one of the (equivalent to) four firsts needed to land Crosby. Of course Demidov isn’t going to be included. But 16 + 17 + Reinbacher is three very good pieces for the Pens. Not too sure who the roster player would be who would make the fourth first equivalent?

Reinbacher is off the table in this deal.

Not saying Pens fans don't have the right to ask for him or Demidov for that matter. But if those are required it's a hard no for Sid. Both are too important long term for us.

You're really delusional

Personally I’m not a fan of either club. As a fan of watching hockey (on tv) it would be beyond amazing to see the Bell Centre when Cosby is introduced for his fist game as a Hab. And then the electric atmosphere as he leads the Habs on a playoff run!!!! Okay, I’m being somewhat selfish but if getting Crosby only cost 16 + 17 + Reinbacher + ? I’d hope the Pens would accept.
