Speculation: Let's discuss the improbable (yet perfect fit) - Crosby to Habs

He's not being traded. I don't know how many times he needs to say "I'm only interested in playing for Pittsburgh" for Habs fans to realize he doesn't want to play for your team.

Some Habs radio put oil on the fire saying Crosby is very upset at the coaching change and they pushed the idea he may want out after that.

And some people gobbled that whole.

No it wouldn't.

I have no idea why this debate on Crosby gets so stupid.

Crosby is only being traded if he wants to be traded and where he wants to be traded. There is ZERO reason that anyone should reasonably think Crosby wants to play anywhere other than Pittsburgh, so the point is moot.

IF Crosby decides he wants to play in Montreal or Colorado or elsewhere, then Pittsburgh will work with him and the team (or one of the teams) he wants to play for to make as good a deal as possible, but it would not be the equivalent of 4 or 6 1sts for a 37 year old C who at his age and impact and reputation is frankly beyond conventional understanding of values. Its not a video game, Pittsburgh will not hold the guy who helped saved their franchise and continuously gave them deals for ransom to get the maximum deal possible, it would be an awful look.

But again, there's no reason to think Crosby wants to play anywhere other than Pittsburgh and retire a member of any other team.
All of this.

This would be amazing as a Habs fan but I think it's gonna hurt what we would have to give up. It's not gonne be Mailloux, beck and two firsts.
Yeah forget it. I'm not throwing out our future depth and a 5-8 years window, for 1-2 years of Crosby. He'll start next season at 38 yo, he's going to sharply decline or decide to retire very soon.

If Crosby agreed to go to the Habs it would be very hush-hush until the deal was done because the Habs would have to match the Pens ask, which would be the equivalent of four firsts. If they didn’t come up to that price then nothing would happen and hear nothing about it.
4 x 1sts for a 38 years old... yeah that's not hapening. Pens wouldn't ask for that either.

If Crosby wants to go somewhere else, he'll decide the team, not Dubas.

Return might not be as big as Penguins fans want, but Crosby deserves to chose his destination with what he gave to Pittsburgh.

Could be Montreal, or somewhere else. Could see the Sullivan firing being the trigger.

Equivalent of four firsts is different than four fists.
Likely 2 actual first round picks + a recent first rounder roster player and a first round pick prospect.

Yeah, my max would be 1st this year + top 5 protected next year + Beck/Roy/Kapanen + Mailloux/Engstrom + another throw in,
People here thinking 4-6 first rounders are delusional.

Crosby is a legend, but he's 38 starting to start next season. He will inevitably decline very fast from now on.

Look at what Marchand got ?
Crosby is 37 years old and will dictate where he go, he's getting 2 x first that's it .
I think people need to lower their expectation, but I think there's a big gap in between Crosby and Marchand (who already starting a steep decline). Crosby just put up 91 pts.

But, when a legend decide where he wants to go, most often the return is underwhelming

I know this. this is why i said 2 x first ,, Marchand got a 2nd pick .

He didn't throw a fit when they traded Guentzel and that was about 100x more of a material subtraction from the team than Sullivan

Add to that another losing season and no hope of getting really better in the short term...

We'll see. He already won, he might be content with staying there while they rebuild as well.

Assuming Crosby wants to leave, he will pick his destination, which hurts his value. He would probably consider only Colorado, so there would be no trade wars.

I guess it's been ten days since the last time a delusional habs fan posted about Crosby...

Can we just pin one of the other 5 threads about this that have come and gone in this calendar year to the top so we can stop coming in to say Crosby to the habs isn't going to happen.

I don't think the return would be as high as some suggest, because it would not be a 'highest bidder' type situation. Crosby would pick which team he would want to go to, then Pitt would negotiate the best deal possible with said team, with said team knowing that there are not other bidders. My best guess would be something around 3 firsts or 2 firsts and a prospect.

With all that being said, I think there is about a 1-2 percent chance of this actually happening.
Habs have the 16th and 17th overall picks in this year's draft, it's definitely a start

You wanna discuss your chances with Sydney Sweeney too while we’re discussing things that’ll never happen?
Don't be so narrow minded, do you really think Sid wants to wallow on a last place team for the rest of his career? Do you not think that Dubas wants to get a huge return for one his sole top asset in order to rebuild?

Ray Bourque was the top Bruin of all time, but wanted to go play for a contender and the Bruins obliged.

Honestly, you and the Penguins would be delusional not to explore the possibility, you have an anemic prospect pool and a bunch of aging players. I'm not knocking the Pens, just being realistic. Why would Dubas just sit there and watch Crosby age out? Everyone in hockey knows they will not get back to the playoffs with this core, as great as they were.
