The Habs need a veteran presence, and they also need a 2nd line center, Newhook can skate but that's about it. Crosby grew up being a Habs fan, and father was drafted by the CH. Crosby would be a perfect mentor to kids like Slaf, Demidov and Caufield.

Crosby is 37 Years old, and although he will fetch a good haul for the Pens, it's not like he's in his mid twenties.

The Penguins are going downhill fast, and seems like Dubas will finally be given the green light to rebuild.

What does it take for the Habs to snag Crosby?

This would be amazing as a Habs fan but I think it's gonna hurt what we would have to give up. It's not gonne be Mailloux, beck and two firsts.

It would be a huge step up going from a team who cant make the playoffs to a team who cant win in the playoffs

Perfect fit for Crosby. Similar to how Trottier went to Pit. But this will cost a lot from the Habs. The equivalent of four firsts.

Again???

I don't see why Crosby would stay around a lottery team that is getting older, not better. He's still a terrific player, but if he wants a sniff at a Cup again in his career it will be with another team. Also don't see why PITT wouldn't be OK with it. He would net back some nice pieces.

As much as he says he wants to stay in Pitt forever, and I do think he's genuine in that, he seems like way too competitive of a guy to finish his career on a perpetually non-competitive team. So I think either he changes his tune or the Penguins get very aggressive to try to get back into cup contention in a hurry.

Crosby would net back a heck of a lot more than just “some nice pieces”.
Four firsts (equivalent)
And if the Habs are including cap going back (Laine and Anderson for example) then they pay for that too. So now that’s six firsts (equivalent)
Really, the cost would be insane.

I don't think the return would be as high as some suggest, because it would not be a 'highest bidder' type situation. Crosby would pick which team he would want to go to, then Pitt would negotiate the best deal possible with said team, with said team knowing that there are not other bidders. My best guess would be something around 3 firsts or 2 firsts and a prospect.

With all that being said, I think there is about a 1-2 percent chance of this actually happening.

I don't think the Habs would have to send salary back

Because Crosby has said his idol is Steve Yzerman and wants to be a one team player just like Yzerman was.

No it wouldn't.

I have no idea why this debate on Crosby gets so stupid.

Crosby is only being traded if he wants to be traded and where he wants to be traded. There is ZERO reason that anyone should reasonably think Crosby wants to play anywhere other than Pittsburgh, so the point is moot.

IF Crosby decides he wants to play in Montreal or Colorado or elsewhere, then Pittsburgh will work with him and the team (or one of the teams) he wants to play for to make as good a deal as possible, but it would not be the equivalent of 4 or 6 1sts for a 37 year old C who at his age and impact and reputation is frankly beyond conventional understanding of values. Its not a video game, Pittsburgh will not hold the guy who helped saved their franchise and continuously gave them deals for ransom to get the maximum deal possible, it would be an awful look.

But again, there's no reason to think Crosby wants to play anywhere other than Pittsburgh and retire a member of any other team.

You wanna discuss your chances with Sydney Sweeney too while we’re discussing things that’ll never happen?

Crosby is significantly better than Suzuki. He'd be your best player.
Crosby is great. He could take on the #1 centre. Which allows Suzuki to fill the #2 role, where he’d dominate. Suzuki would crush the rest of the leagues 2C’s.
As great as Crosby is, he is aging. Lane Hutson (imo) is the Habs best player.
Habs get Crosby, without giving up too much from their young core, and they will be competing for the Cup.
Which young core guy could the Habs afford to include in a Crosby deal?

If Crosby agreed to go to the Habs it would be very hush-hush until the deal was done because the Habs would have to match the Pens ask, which would be the equivalent of four firsts. If they didn’t come up to that price then nothing would happen and hear nothing about it.
