Speculation: Letang: Is he traded and/or Does he chase?

Maybe I got my years wrong. Hainsey was big for us too. But Daley basically revamped our defense on his own that one run.

Yea the Championship years can get confusing. But I always go by what year they won the Cup in. So the 20215-2016 Pens won their 1st Cup, but it's generally referred to as the 2016 Pens.

I still can't say it was 1 player that transformed the team. It was everything: Horny, Kessel, Hags, Daley, Sullivan, etc - all had a hand in changing the culture of the team.

Here is the roster with Daley on it from that year.

I think he LTIRetires here.

I could see a Price + for Letang trade.

They get out of LTIR on Price at 10.5 for a year. We get an asset and they get a veteran RD. Put him on the 2nd or 3rd pairing playing 18 a night for a couple of years. I could see that be something they would be interested in.

Kris Letang has been a Penguin for nearly 20 years and is the franchise record holder at pretty much everything for a defenseman.

He was a huge part of two cup wins and three finals runs.

Bizarre take.
I put Letang in the same boat as Fleury.

I respect Letang like crazy, and have no issue with him retiring here, but sorry...he's still not in the same league as Geno/Sid.

We won in 2017 because we got Daley for basically free and he turned into a stud defenseman for us. White-knuckled defense about sums that run up.
Daley and Schultz both stud reclamation projects!! It was awesome!

Why does it feel disrespectful to you guys to state that we won without Letang?

I always hate the "we won in '17 without Letang" takes.

Yeah, we won. But we white-knuckled it almost the entire time with a patch work blue line held together with duct tape and chewed up bubble gum. We got absolutely caved in the finals and PDOd our little hearts out in order to win. The team in '16 (you know, with Letang) was worlds better.
Yeah, that run should be remembered for how great Sid, Geno, and Murray/Fleury were. Not what the defense did without Letang.

Still, I don't put Letang in the same tier as Sid and Geno. He deserves to retire here if he wants, probably will get his number retired, but it's the Crosby-Malkin era, not the Crosby-Malkin-Letang era.

Sid-Geno-Letang-Flower era

:sarcasm:

Wow, if true re this not being his last contract, Letang is delusional about his play lol…

Oh. Guess Letang's due to retire any second.

Any talk of trading or buying out or whatever-ing Letang is totally strange to me. We're trying to be bad and we have no right-handed defencemen once Karlsson is gone. Run him into the ground until either his contract is up or he LTIRetires! Let him eat as many minutes as he wants!
