I really don't mean to make light of this situation, but what is with Penguins' stars and their horrible luck?

Briere - Car accident
Lemieux - Cancer
Crosby - Concussions
Letang - Stroke

Not to mention Marty Straka having freaking weights fall on him after returning and Vokoun's blood clot. All of these (other than Crosby's concussions) have happened off the ice/unrelated to hockey.

I mean, I realize that bad luck happens, but this is too much...

Very sobering stuff. It seems bizarre to me that this is being talked about as a non-career threatening situation as I would figure any stroke along with accompanying long term medical treatment for correction/prevention would have to be considered at least a little "career threatening." But I'm certainly not anything close to a medical expert. So I'll just wish he and his family all the best and hope for a speedy recovery.

You could probably make a list like this with a lot of teams. Right now the Wild have one guy with MS and another with Huntingdon's disease.

You could throw in there Baz Bastein killed in a car wreck - although his blood alcohol was really high, IIRC. My guess is over 40+ years, most other teams have had similar incidences of bad luck, although Mario's cancer is probably an outlier.

In any event, hope Letang makes a full recovery and is back out on the ice as soon as safely possible.

I guess I'm another one here whose father had a stroke. It's serious stuff, and scary.

I hope Letang gets better soon. I don't expect him back until training camp, but you never know.

Not to be that guy. And I wish him all the best.

But what do you think Shero does as the deadline approaches. It would seem they'll have no clue where he's at until he's off blood thinners, and that'll be after the deadline. Would they put him on LTIR until the playoffs and use that cap space?

My guess is they'll LTIR him whenever he's eligible. Which shouldn't be all the way to the deadline.

Six notable health issues over 43 years isn't bad mojo or a curse or bad luck. It's life. How many different people have worn the black and gold over that span — 750-1,000?

Brian Berard, Saku Koivu, Luc Bourdon, Dan Snyder, Derek Boogaard, Alexi Cherapanov, Marc Savard, Josh Harding, all of team Locomotiv, ... and those are just the hockey players who quickly come to mind who had either terrible health/injuries or died during their playing days.

It just seems like it'll be a tough situation for Shero to navigate. He won't know for sure Letang can come back before the playoffs until after the deadline. They can LTIR him, but he'll still count against the cap if he returns before the playoffs.

It's 10 games and 24 days and I believe can be done retroactively. Shouldn't be an issue unless they bring someone in without shipping salary out.

Sorry to hear about Letang. Main thing is he recovers and has a good life even if he had to give up Hockey, not saying he will have to. Hab fans had to deal with Koivu when we got the shock of his cancer, athletes tend to be pretty strong individuals as he proved when he came back strongly.

Absolutely awful to hear. Kris needs to put hockey on the back burner for a while after suffering something this serious. Really hope he's able to recover from this as best as he can.

**** man, I'm pretty sad over this...

On a positive note it sounds like it could have been so much worse.

It seems that it can be repaired and a complete recovery after. Hopefully it is one of those things that sounds a LOT more scary than it thankfully turned out to be.

Just heard on my way home from work.

All I can say is, ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME???

Let's be real honest here. This team doesn't need a new coach or GM. Doesn't need wingers, enforcers, agitators, etc. The thing this team need most of all is a ****ing priest. Obviously some serious voodoo **** was cursed upon them. Just unreal
