I really hope they don't fall into the traditional "nice guy" trap with Ryan. "Can't send him down because he has a family! blah blah blah."

If he isn't cutting it, he isn't cutting it. Send him down if he's been surpassed.

Don’t think that will be an issue with KK. Sent J Brown down right after he had apparently just bought a house here.

Islands in the stream.
Also I just watched Leon's second, that move he made on the defenceman at the top of the circles is actually insane.

He knows that Skjei has to respect his backhand pass, so he fakes it and takes two strides and goes right the f*** around him. Unreal.
Was a fantastic goal. So was the first and the sublime assist to Arvid. You play against Drai and you have to watch the replays to know what happened and even then you know you can't stop it.

The Drai games against Detroit and Nashville were spectacular.

Finally getting to see the game (had practice and Trick or Treating with the kid last night) and nothing to add, just wanted to say WOW, what an absolute over the top bomb from Podz. I had no idea he could chuck 'em like that. That was a big boy throw.

Team is 5-0 when they fight, I guess they know what they need to do haha

No Connor, no problem!
We'll see. Before we all wet ourselves over this game, let's keep in mind.

- Nashville is a shit team so far this year, other than a couple outbursts
-it's the first game without McD and the team was probably jacked with adrenelin for that to show themselves worthy
-we traditionally beat Nashville in our sleep
-Lean owns that team

So, while I will enjoy the results and the win of course, let's not get carried away.

His lateral mobility, and agility are probably the worst in the league for "starting" goaltenders.

That could be fine if he was a consistent wall on shots he was set for and facing, but for long stretches at a time he is basically rice paper. He gets beat clean from distance WAY more often than is acceptable.

I wonder how much of that is coaching. Last seasons when Skinner went to that sports psychologist, along with the kinesiologist (the same one Hellebyuck goes to) is when his game took off last season.

Apparently in his eyes he isn’t worse. I don’t think he’s playing him just because , it’s that he thinks he’s at least comparable to Stecher.
Stecher is clearly better than Dermott IMO so I'm just not sure what Knoblauch sees outside of having some familiarity with him once upon a time.
I guess this just a case of a coach having his favorites and Dermott happens to be the one here.

Stetcher is small but faster than Dermott. Preds are old and slow. Need to keep guys active. Dermott did fine against the Preds.

What a fun game to watch.

- Drai continues to beast. He’s really come on these last 3 or 4 games. All-world last night.
- Starting to really like Podz. The work effort and strength was always there. Last night he showed some awareness and playmaking. Plus that haymaker was something else, probably one of the hardest punches thrown in the last 10 years of NHL hockey.
- Arvie was buzzing. Crazy how many opportunities he gets open for. Him and Drai are building a great chemistry. A little bit more finish and bearing down on chances, and Drai will drive him to a career year.
- Love that Hymans off the schnide. Faked his usually forehand-backhand that hasn’t been going in this year and just tucked it upstairs.
- Maybe Embersons best game. Good board work, didn’t make an egregious mistake. His outlet passing has been rough, seems to second guess himself, hoping with confidence and comfort on a new team that part of his game works itself out.
- Philp is a smart hockey player. Loved his poise and decision making all night. Maybe just needs to up his motor and work rate, but there’s a player here with his IQ.
- Picks was great.
- Nuge and Kulak looking a bit behind a step. Nuge needs to get going, there’s not much going on in his game.
- Brown-Henrique-Janmark can’t get much done right now.

Put Stecher in for Dermott and keep the rest of the lineup the same against the Flames. Including Pickard in net. There's no reason to start Skinner until Monday.
Skinner with too much time off is kind of a mess, though. Part of me wants to give Pickard the harder game (NJD) because he's just flat out playing better right now and probably gives us a better chance to beat them.

I think the better goalie should go in the game we're more likely to win.

Throwing Skinner in against the Flames means we are opening ourselves up to lose because of goaltending exclusively, whereas it's much more possible we lose to the Devils regardless of goaltending than it is the Flames. Also - don't discount how much the opposing fans shitting on Skinner impacts his game. Flames fans are troglodytes, but they're still smart enough to know that Skinner sucks, and will be all over him basically from puck drop forward.

With Skinner I'm more interested in sending a message of accountability than trying to manage him based on past performance. You weren't ready to start the season for the second season in a row? Now you can get yourself ready while the other guy that did his job plays the games as we wait for you to get prepared.
