It is written by Steve Simmons, so it could be a complete lie. What the **** does Leiweke know about hockey though? I doubt he'd have any input in hiring a coach. Hell, I bet he couldn't even pick out Scotty Bowman from a crowd.

Reason numero uno why you let the hockey people make hockey decisions. Thank Christ this guy was let go. Good luck Toronto, but you're ****ed with that guy in charge.

One, so did like half of this entire board..and two he didn't stop DL from hiring Sutter and he could have.

It doesn't work like that. In a properly-run organization, one informs their boss of an important decision, but that decision is left to the individual person anyway. Note that I wrote properly-run organization.

And Timmy was giving advice, not a directive, because he is letting Deano sink or swim on his decisions. Again, a properly-run organization decision by the President to the GM.

Timmy was just wrong in his assessment but right in letting his GM do what he wanted to do.

So why even complain about it or bring it up now?

He was let go for the whole football stadium fiasco anyway, not because of anything with the Kings.

Because there was an article written about it today...no one is going out of their way to bring up Liewieke around here these days but it's worth discussion.

This, sounds more like stern advice, but at least he let DL do what TL thought was digging his own grave.

So let me get this straight...

A year into being hired as MLSE's head honcho, after the Leafs disastrously miss the playoffs after seemingly making a step in the right direction, a Toronto media hack writes an article painting their new boss in a less than glorious light? YOU DONT SAY????

I'm no Lieweke fan, but anything coming out of the Toronto media is utter *********.

Leiweke probably did think that. However, unlike what AEG used to do...make the decisions for the GM...he allowed Lombardi to make the call.

The one thing that Leiweke (and Anschutz) must be given credit for is recognizing that they had to stop meddling in hockey operations decisions and let those qualified to make those decisions make them. They did that once Lombardi was hired and the results speak for themselves.

Just to refresh your memory:

He is such a p**ck.

Refresh my memory of a guy pumping the tires of his new boss and the Toronto media. Who cares?

Like pining over an ex-girlfriend you supposedly hated.

Nope.

Didn't care one way or the other about him until this interview. He didn't have to "pump the tires of his new boss" by slicing up the tires of his old one, now did he? But he just had to goon it up and dis L.A.

That's why I don't like the snake. And as you can see, you are about the only one who doesn't care so far in this thread. So when you ask "who cares?" read the thread, please. There will be your answer.

Here's the thing with Leiweke. He's a carny: a mouthpiece who is trying to sell an attraction. That's why he's lasted so long in the business. The problem is he's also like the boy who cried wolf. He'll even go as far as to make things up to sell his product. Like the whole football stadium deal that is going to fall through. He promised he'd deliver a team in Los Angeles and failed to do so, and that led to his dismissal from AEG Sports. They just made it look like an amicable split to save face.

Oh and here's a funny look back at what people's thoughts were on Leiweke back in 2010 (funny enough I started the thread about this supposed "five year plan" that Leiweke talked about).

Steve Simmons is a buffoon, I don't trust anything he says. I mean who did he get that quote from? Did Leiweke tell him himself? I doubt it, he doesn't seem like the man to sport his own shortcomings. Did Lombardi tattle behind his back? Even more unlikely. At best he got some second hand info by some blabbermouth standing next to a water cooler in Toronto and filled in the blanks himself, or just as likely made the whole thing up.

Those are direct quotes and a journalist would soon lose his job making crap up like that. Maybe he is a buffoon but this would be the equivalent of going out on that journalistic ledge with every intention to jump.

It's got to be real.

A lot of you guys hated it as well. "Bah, Sutter, the madman who traded for Jokinen? The guy who traded Phaneuf for spare parts blah blah blah." Sutter didn't suddenly come to LA and become a great coach. He had always been a phenomenal coach, just hadn't done it in a few years. But fans, media, and apparently Leiweke were fickle and just couldn't separate Sutter the coach and Sutter the GM.
