Mike to me is just as big a person as Mario or Sid or Jags in terms of importance.

So many nights as a child falling asleep to Mike calling games on my clock radio above my bed.

Just a huge loss. There will never ever be anybody else like him. A true Bonafide one of kind.

I truely cherish the memories that Mike provided to me over the course my life. And I will never forget him.

RIP Mike. It’s a Hockey Night in Heaven.

GOAT gets thrown around a lot these days, but Mike Lange absolutely embodies the term. He could get a woman in white gloves to jump out of her seat for a great goal call, looking for a back to scratch with a hacksaw.

He's been missed tremendously since retiring. He is the voice of the franchise. Always will be. Those calls of Mario, Jags, Sid, Geno, Flower, etc. still give goosebumps.

You knew he wasn't well the last handful of years, so this isn't a shock, but still a punch in the gut. I'd hoped we'd see him in the arena again for one thing or another.

Sad week in broadcasting as longtime Nebraska football and baseball pxp guy Greg Sharpe passed this past week of pancreatic cancer.

The peak of Pens hockey was when we had John Barbero as the PA announcer, Mikey calling games, and Mario/Sid/Jagr/Geno all making unbelievable moments on the ice.

I never realized how much I missed John Barbero until he was gone. Such an iconic voice on PA.

And I already know how much I've missed Mikey since he left the booth. Pens hockey will never be the same without him :(. I am so thankful for the memories he did provide all of us.

Had a t shirt with a muscle bound Penguin holding a hockey stick on the front and a bunch of his calls/sayings written on the back. Probably bought it in the Strip. Certainly wasn’t licensed/official. I wish I hadn’t worn it out. I think it was put out after the back to back Cups in 91-92.

A voice of my youth. He and Cope. We used his calls when we played street hockey. I musta said Hallelujah Hollywood and Look Out Loretta a million times each.

A decent dude I met a couple times, including at the 2007 draft here in Cbus, where he took a freak from his Diet Coke and cig to let a buddy snap a pic of us and have a short but lovely chat about hockey, soda, and the two cities I’ve called home.

Tomorrow, I will buy Sam a drink, and get his dog one, too.

EDIT - found a pic if the back of that t shirt

Damn I love that shirt!

The passion he felt for the game was so real. He was legitimately excited when they scored and that made you excited as well. When he called games they felt like the most important thing in the world even if they were throw away ones. He made them meaningful.

As a kid I envisioned scoring big goals and having his voice calling it in the press box. This one hurts

As a kid growing up in Beaver County I always enjoyed listening to Mike Lange, one of the very best with one liners unmatched by any broadcaster from any sport. RIP sir and thank you for the memories!
