Leevi Meriläinen - First Career Shutout

Was a great game from the kid for sure but not sure this was worth a Main Boards thread. Leevi and the Sens still have a ways to go - no need to jump the gun quite yet. I get winning is exciting but try and show some restraint next time OP.
Always a nice bonus when the avatar matches the post perfectly

Any goaltending gurus here that want to project how good he is or will be?

I guess any goalie can get hot, and it's just their consistency that makes them stars or not.

But technically and skill wise how good is he?

He was just channeling his inner grant fuhr yesterday.

For real though he's been top tier tender everywhere he has played. Stole Blomquist job in Finland.

Future is bright for him. How bright to be seen but I suspect he's gonna be a quality tender a long time on this league

Meh, you never know with goalies.

Happy to see him stepping up right now though.

This is why I would never draft a goalie in the 1st round. Draft a bunch in rounds 2-7 to roll the dice, sign free agents.

For every Carey Price, there are several Brian Finleys.

Look at some recent 1st rounders... Askarov. Looks very promising, but his team traded him for a pick probably lower in the round than where he was drafted, despite promise. You rarely get full value for goalies in a trade. Wallstadt. Looked very promising. I wanted him picked by Sens. Then suddenly this season he is awful.

Logan Thompson. Undrafted. Traded for a 2nd rounder. Looks like one of the best this season, let's see if he keeps it up, or is a 1 year wonder. Recent cup winners Binnington, Hill, Kuemper, etc, none were huge prospects.

You never know where your top goalies come from. Merilainen looks good so far, I like his technique, and his mental fortitude, but I'd never consider a goalie good unless he's had 2 good seasons, or great unless he's had 5 great seasons.

Hopefully, the kid keeps it up.
