Yeah, he is retiring, though it is a shame. He is a great third line center and was solid for us.

Seriously, stayed just long enough for us to see what having 3 offensively competent centers does for the team.

I do enjoy that the closest I've ever gotten into a bar fight was over Lecavalier. Friend and I were discussing the playoffs circa 2007. His drunk friend joined the conversation. Eventually we started talking about who was going to come out of the East. I said Ottawa. The drunk guy told me that Ottawa had no chance and Tampa had the "veteran grit" to get through.

I paused for a second and asked "You do realize Tampa was eliminated last week, right?"

He then got in my face and yelled "Are you telling me Vinny Lecavalier's not the best player in the NHL?"

"I'm not entirely sure he's the best player on his own team." At which point a couple other guys stepped in between us. It was a really puzzling exchange. Another friend had been watching from afar and was equally puzzled what I had said to set off the drunk guy.

But at least I'll always have "veteran grit" and "Are you telling Vinny Lecavalier isn't the best player in the NHL" as go to inside jokes.
