And look at the board...no one could handle a rebuild.

People would be okay with a rebuild because they wouldn't expect to win games. Everyone is pissed because we have a top end roster and they mail it in all the time and play like the Oilers.

something needs to happen.

the roster tweaks I've been advocating are to late at this point may have to do some more major changes. the sooner the better, i'd never give up on the post season, something needs to happen. i'm not sure how people want to define a "rebuild", we need something more that a tweak yet less than a blow it up.. to me this is 2 or 3 deals involving core players. i define a deal as a trade, ?FA signing or something else that addresses the need for scoring depth.

we are a mid lever team, get used to it HFers.

Which is why they need to rebuild and shed salary. Get rid of Handzus Burish Boyle Havlat and get a lot younger. Rebuild the defense around Burns and Vlasic. Don't re-sign Thornton, maybe Keep Marleau for around 4m and Build the Offense around Hertl and Couture. Actually don't resign Marleau either.

I think it's based on expectations. We've been expecting the Sharks to be a good team considering the roster but this year they've been playing terribly for the most part and they are way below expectations. However, I think that if we know that the team is gonna suck but they actually tried hard, then it's not so bad, we can at least say they tried.

So right now I think we're in a situation where we're losing and we can't say why for sure(there are a lot of reasons and who knows which of those reasons is the main cause) and there's not a lot of hope in sight.

I'd be okay with us sucking if I didn't feel like it was because we were poorly managed - I'm sure others feel the same way.

Bingo.

Actually, I'm staying so positive simply because this is what I want. I want change. I've wanted it since before the season started. I didn't have expectations coming into the season and I didn't make any assumptions during the first 7 games. I'm just watching as many games (Sharks and non-Sharks) as possible and just enjoying the fact that there's hockey to watch.

I honestly feel the 7-0-0 start and the way they won really built a lot if expectations we didn't have at the start of the year. If they started 3-2-2 which is probably closer to what this team actually is then we wouldn't be so down the team. I agree they need to get younger and a new gm and coaching staff. DW isn't a bad gm and TMac isn't a bad coach but the direction of the franchise needs to change if they want to get better.

This is definitely the best season to have a bad team. Coming off of a lockout, it's hard to complain because we got hockey back.

Precisely. I'm just so overjoyed to have hockey back. Plus, there's only 20 (!) games left in the season and then there will be a nice post-season with me able to enjoy other teams play without the stress of the Sharks having to deal with it. I've been watching a ton of Canes games, Flyers games, Isles games, Wings games, Cats games, etc. I honestly can't be mad.

Who knows, we could be last year's Habs, or the year before's Devils. Grab a young player top-5 and then regroup the next year.

It is. Its just disappointing to see your team struggle while your rivals are rolling. At least Vancouver sucks too.

What rivals? Detroit's doing meh. They'll make the playoffs but not any noise. Anaheim? I'm just laughing at the contracts they just handed out to Getzlaf and Perry, when they're just at the end of their primes. They're a ****** team getting lucky. LA? They're by far the best team in the league and everyone knows that. Outside of Brown I could care less about how well they're doing, as Kopitar is my favorite non-Shark. Vancouver's doing almost as badly as us. I want them not to tank, but to barely make the playoffs and have a one-and-done.

Plus, I can never stay upset when I go read the Hodgson thread on the Canucks forum. :)

Luckily, the defense doesn't even need rebuilding.

Irwin - Burns
Vlasic - Demers
Stuart - Braun
Petrecki

Excellent young D group going forward. Attention needs to be placed solely on the forwards. Trading Boyle, Clowe and Murray for futures would be a great start.

Actually, I'm ready to move on from Vlasic. I know he's young, I know he's just re-signed a contract extension, but I'm just getting really frustrated with his lack of puck skills. I think he's one of the best pieces we could move for a young top-6 winger+.

Same here. I'm just not interested in having a zero offense/all defense player as part of our core going forward.

True, but he provides an ingredient no one else does. We don't need 6 2-way d-men, and his shut down game can be phenomenal. He looks great with Burns, even puts up points. He's having a rough season, as is everyone, but come on, has he ever allowed a 2 on 1 goal against?

Finally someone who feels the same way I do. For all the Boyle trade talk...Vlasic's skillset might be easier to replace. I know Toronto needs someone to play with the Dion. They have a lot of young assets.

Totally disagree. He is capable of putting up points with Burns, but the down side is that he has to play with Burns to put up those points. Plus, there is nothing wrong with having one all defense player. Burns, Irwin, Demers and Braun more than make up for it. He is an ingredient, and a damn good one at that.

St. Louis needs a partner for Pietrangelo, Ottawa needs a partner for Karlsson, Washington needs a partner for whichever of Green/Carlson isn't with Alzner, Edmonton needs a partner for J. Schultz, etc. A young, top pairing left-handed shutdown defenseman is very valuable.

I agree, particularly for PK reasons, sure the other guys can do pretty well on the PK but having a top notch defensive stalwart to PK, shutdown top lines and also let the other guy go on the offense is pretty good thing to have and a lot of teams are looking for that too. We also don't have anyone who's as good defensively coming up and who knows if we're going to be able to sign anyone like that.

Right but then we won't have one.......I don't understand this.

*Trying not to think about the amazing return St. Louis would give us for Vlasic*

I feel like he's an easier piece to replace. Defensive defenseman are moved all the time. Though most can't skate as well as Vlasic does, I doubt we'd see much of a difference because of all the little puck bobbles and fumbles that make MEV play slower than he really is.

One all defense/pk guy is fine, but if Vlasic stays it will be at least two since DW insists on having a 3rd pairing pylon.
