We have some nice pieces, but it's nothing special. We are ranked mid-teens system wise, right? I don't think Boston/Philly/Pitts are trembling in fear looking at our future roster. He's had his chance and failed.

I have more faith in Black/Pegula finding a world class GM than Darcy striking oil again.

I agree with you entirely. No one has any idea of the quality of our prospects yet. It's all just unrealized potential at the moment.

I love how some here speak of Joel Armia as though he is Jari Kurri.

He may amount to zero in the NHL. Who knows.

Find me a single post that does that.

You're kidding, right?

You are a moderator here. I assume you read around at least as much as I do.

Armia is spoken of as some sort of triumphant king currently in exile in Finland awaiting his triumphant return to the Sabres.

Have a read through this thread, for example...

Of note:

"Armia is one of my favorite prospects. So I'm really rooting for him. I'm no hater, haha. I honestly didn't see one of his games. I was going based off of what other posters had said."

"I BELIEVE IN YOU ARMIA GOOO"

"When is he suppose to come to NA? Buffalo already have a very versatile team... they'll look even more scarier in a couple years."

"I am seeing things, or does Armia pass the puck on purpose to Kärpät-defender's skate in his second goal? Little bit luck in that goal since it bounces of the glove of gk. In any case, very nice goal and very typical Joel Armia goal. E: I think he does it on purpose. Sick move, reminds me of Diego Maradona"

"Ofc he will be able to do it. He plays whenever it matters most. Why hasn't Jalonen tried him on EHT?? He is the best Finnish hockey player (forward) at the moment but what does Jalonen!? Keeps ignoring him."

"Armia should be in the WHC squad but it doesn't look like it. Wake up, jalonen."

"There has been some positive development in his overall effort level and attitude lately. He can do just about anything and everything when just he wants to. I hope this change is permanent, because there are no words to describe how I'll feel if a kid as talented as Joel Armia busts because of attitude issues."

"Armia too good"

"What a great talent this kid is. He should definitely be playing in the WHC. as i have said he is already the best finnish forward, and it's not even close."

Does anyone think we're the team that reached out to Burke about a non-GM role? I'm not sure I do... But could Burke help pry Eakins out of TOR?

Still waiting for a post praising him like jari kurri.

All you provided is proof that people are looking forward to seeing him on the team.

Yeah that's crazy stuff for a top rated First round pick

Lol. None of the posts you just quoted have anything close to praising him to a HoF'er. Not even close.

Btw, the dude who is praising Armia to ridiculous lengths isn't even a Sabres fan, he's a Finnish fan, so nice try.

Rather than get sucked into the M.O. around here (digressing individual flame wars that have nothing to do with productive conversation), I will simply re-state my point.

Joel Armia along with most of our young prospects (including people like Tyler Myers) are unknown prospects at this point. They only represent future potential that has yet to be realized and may never be realized. I think it is unsound to evaluate Regier's perceived quality as a GM based on the possible future performance of these unknown commodities.

I would rather avoid another 3-5 year period in which we ultimately realize the new "core" is still more of Regier's crap. I disagree with his idea of what makes a good NHL playoff performer.

It's a lot easier/faster to cut this guy loose based on his entire record and start fresh with a young up and comer.

Not trying to piss you off, but I think Armia will be an NHL player from what I've seen. Girgs has me a little more concerned. Grigs should at least get a bump from Rolston. If you can't bring him to the coach, bring the coach to him. lol

Will fix everything
Honestly, if we missing the playoffs or making the playoffs, it doesn't change the need for us to hire a hockey guy to run the hockey department. Regier excels at running the day to day operations, extracting top value out of his players. He always does exactly what his owners/boss tells him to do. He is a company man, through and through. People are going to hate me for suggesting this, but the exact guy to take this collection of talent and add to it? Brian Burke. Sorry. He isn't very good at asset management (see: Kessel deal). I'd almost want him to Co-GM with Darcy. It'd be the weirdest odd couple setup, but with his guy for hockey guys and how the game should be played (a physical, grind'em down, wear'em out style) and a penchant for big deals (Sedin twins, Pronger deal, etc) with Regier apt for scouting and patience.

You are posting on HF (Hockey's Future) where prospects and draft picks are more valuable then gold. Most regulars gush over prospects, as this is the forum for it.

Darcy and his scouts have done a very good job in recent years, filling the pipe with future NHLers. They have a knack for finding talent in late rounds.
If the suck that is this team continues for the rest of this season, I want that group around to 'gut' the roster and pick apart this draft.
