Rumor: LeBrun: Flames Remain Interested in Cozens

Then you're likely not getting Cozens :dunno:

As a neutral 3rd party here, a package of spare parts like Frost or Sharangovich isn't going to cut it from Buffalo. Even rejecting Zary for Cozens seems pretty silly to me.

He's pretty damn close to this.
Which is why the Flames ended up trading for Frost. The Flames like Cozens, thats common knowledge. The Flames also are horrible trade partners for the Sabres, also common knowledge.

Yep.
I honestly do think it needs a third team involved. A team that has a player that Buffalo would like, but that's uninterested in a Cozens return and would prefer just futures (which Calgary is flush with).

Frost's numbers for 24 and 25 seasons are actually very comparable to Cozens. Frost + 1st, is actually a really solid offer.

I mean this season is the worst Dylan Cozens has ever been and he's scoring at a similar clip to Frost. He's also 2 years younger and has a 30 goal 68 point season under his belt. So Buffalo gets older and worse in a trade involving these 2 players. A late 1st doesn't do anything for Buffalo in a draft that's weak in general and gets particularly weak at the back half of the 1st round. I don't get the appeal for Buffalo. They'd be much better off keeping Cozens and hoping he rebounds.

I can certainly see where there's interest in Cozens from the Flames end...but yeah, it's just a really tough deal to put together, because Calgary doesn't really have the sort of pieces that Buffalo would want. They desperately need to get off this perpetual "rebuilding treadmill", so i can't see a pure futures deal making any sense. Then they've got older players on tougher to move contracts where it'd be extremely difficult to balance the "value", if it's even there for Buffalo at all.

Not strictly a problem limited to Calgary though, when it comes to teams that might want Cozens. It's just inherently problematic to make a deal, because established young NHL players in the general vein of Cozens is kind of what Buffalo should really be looking for themselves. Other than the fact that he seems to be regressing and in need of a change of scenery, obviously. But the teams that are looking for that sort of young Center, probably aren't going to be in a phase where it makes sense to swap their own good similarly young NHL players for him.

Except Buffalo is also flush with futures. We again have one of the top ranked prospect pools. If a team wants futures we don't need Calgary to facilitate.

Idk how this would work...

Craig the Conman Conroy probably on a fishing expedition. Fresh off his success in Philly, he's probably dangling a 2nd round pick plus a 6th round pick in 2028 while quietly whispering, "The biggest thing is cap flexibility..." to see if Buffalo will bite. :sarcasm:

Honestly that might work on Kevyn "We need to save cap space for the future" Adams.

Calgary isnt going to give up one of their up and coming players for a player who has digressed the past two years. Last year Cozens scored 18 goals and 47 pts. This year he's on pace to score 16 and 41. Sabres fans, as usual, are over valuing their players.
Digressed for 2 years? Sounds like a typical thread on HF.

Those are the players Buffalo are going for… They’re not taking pics and prospects. Therefore it’s an equivalent level player of the same age or they’re adding to cozens for a better player.
I wonder if something around an extended Boeser + would be a viable deal?
Both teams seem intent on reshaping their roster.
Brock is a more proven player, good in the playoffs and while not old he's older but in his prime and could help a young sabres room. Head shot aside he's put his injury issues behind him, has evolved into a more well rounded player on both sides of the ice and is fresh off a 40 goal season and was well on his way to another one until said head shot and has addmittingly struggled a bit since coming back but then again our entire top six has.

Dylan has taken a step back the last couple of seasons and is locked up to a deal that could be viewed in either light depending on how his career goes.
He's younger and plays Centre so obviously nucks have to add and I have no idea if the sabres brass even has interest in a winger but should help their pp and is as of right now the better player.

End of the day I'm sure sabres fans probably view Dylan as a more important piece and still cling to his draft position but just going by facts and data Brock is the better player while the nucks would be banking on a change of scenery getting Dylan to a level that justifies 1-2nd line production despite for two seasons playing not at that level.

Zary isn’t going anywhere. Making a deal with the Flames is even harder than Detroit. So two of the teams he’s been speculated to, both would require the Sabres taking a mixed type of a deal. With a player who can help them this year, but also a future that likely won’t help them this year. Sharangovich or Prospisil would likely be involved but they’re both back to being very inconsistent this year. With the Flames, I’m not even sure who the bigger piece would be.

Buffalo just construes to need 3-4 players who are harder to play against every shift, every night. Problem is, teams aren’t in the market to hurt themselves in that department either.

If we do see a Cozens deal, I’d wager the return isn’t what Buffalo fans will be happy with.

Likely not, but Buffalo isn’t too far from where Kadri is from. Plus, the Sabres definitely could use his kind of veteran leadership.
Kadri + Anderson for Cozens + ???
No vet is waiving for Buffalo. They are a bad combo of bad for years and not a desirable NHL city.
