GDT: Leaves blowin' into Ottawa, Saturday night 7pm

Their season usually lasted 2 weeks longer than ours. Big deal. You'd be just as pissed getting booted out of the first round every year as you are now. That bar is very very low.

I'm sure this will be the year Mitch Marner doesn't embarrass himself.

I'm almost envious of the goldfish memory that fan base seems to have. Unequivocal failure in May, and by October it's all forgotten. God it must be so easy to exist in an echo chamber so massive it blocks out the sun.

The consequences of failure are a little more tangible here.

Great win.

Leafs were almost entirely neutralized until the 3rd where they stuck their head out but it was all permieter.

Man, if Sens are sometimes soft... I unno what Leafs are.
Well, we played long chunks of the last half of the game hemmed in our zone too, so we were neutralized as well. The Senators can now play a good, structured team D, so they prevented goals which was obviously good. They got to get their offense going. Tkachuk & Batherson in particular have been quiet.

Losing Cousins two shifts into the game combined with still easing Perron back in after missing so much time had us shorten the bench, they definitely looked a little tired.

It's unfortunate because the last thing you want to do heading into back to back games with less than 19 hours between them is to shorten the bench.

Not the prettiest but a W is a W

Couple notes

I dont hate Highmore, does a good job.

Great game by Forsberg, thats a couple in a row for him, good for him!

Also I thought Hamonic wasn’t that bad, had one of the dumbest pinch ever in the first I was like ahhhhhhhh

But then he played decent
Three in a row iirc.

They have figured out how to play Green’s system now, so they seem to be able to plug depth into the lineup when there’s an injury without too much of a negative impact. At, least with their forwards, that is the case.

Nice quiet morning.

The clowns have all retreated to their clown hive. For now.
Ahem

In my best David Attenborough accent

Each spring, after the annual disappointment season begins, the blue and white boobie gathers nesting materials from torn jerseys tossed on NHL rinks in anticipation of hibernating through the summer months. They fatten themselves on rink nachos and watery blue light beers to make it through this lean season.

In the fall, they crawl out of their hives to reapply their face paint, and smoke their darts. As the seasons shift and pre-season begins, many blue and white boobies can be heard letting loose the mating cry of "this year will be our year".

It will not, in fact, be their year. But hope springs eternal.

I mean, I'd say it's the case with the D as well . we've plugged in Matinpalo, and Sebrango at times with good results, you aren't going to replace Sanderson with a callup obviously, but JBD, Hamonic, Matinpalo, and Sebrango all seem perfectly capable of filling the 6th Dman role imo, Kleven looks good when moving up the depth and as much as it's not ideal, Hamonic in the top 4 hasn't resulted in total collapse as one might expect based on popular opinion

Gaudette has really come back down to earth unfortunately.

Gaudette I think loses his spot on the lineup, he’s been good early but recently theres nothing going on

Emergency contact for Sam Gagner...

If Jenik had played better last callup, he makes sense in that he can fill that pest role, but I don't think they go back to him after last time. MacEwen would have likely gotten it but for his leave of absence.

I’d say Halliday so they can get a PP goal

Gaudette had only 5 1/2 mins of TOI total and last shift was done by 5 minutes into the 3rd. In a game where Cousins was also out.

Perron limited to just shy of 10 minutes too. Green was def. rolling 3 lines but still surprising to me since it seemed like Gaudette was his project player.

I would agree with that generally. But, I had more specific thoughts in mind. I just think the learning curve is greater for a defenseman, so plugging in a depth forward is easier. One of the recent goals (2nd last game?) Sebrango and his partner got their coverages wrong and a goal was scored.

By and large though our depth defenders have filled in well. I’m thinking mostly of Matinpalo. JBD & Hamonic have been OK (serviceable for the most part & not terrible every game at least), but I tend to think of them as roster players (6D & 7D).

Well done, my good sir.

id love to go how far they go tbh

Yeah... odds are that we might not even do half of what they did.

8 playoffs in a row (asterisk in the first covid season), paced for 95+ pts every year and 6 times more than 100 pts. They have 3 guys finishing high in NHL scoring year after year.

Since 2017-18, the Leafs have 218 more points in the Standings, 107 more wins in 7 seasons and a half. They have a 0.642 P%, which is 105 pts per 82 games on average

They only won one round but if there's a team that unfortunately can't even laugh at this, it's us. 3-4 years ago we could as we had a "great future" but I think people underrated the DJ Dorion effect, even though there was some who had the warnings signs out. Oh well.

Versus Utah:
Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Stutzle - Pinto - Amadio
Perron - Greig - Giroux
Highmore - Ostapchuk - Gaudette

So we are in Ottawa's building but let's for sure talk about some f***ing Leaf fans tracking of Leafs games. Holy f*** I am so sick of these f***ing assholes!
Most egrigious was how they gave no f***s on the broadcast about nick cousins getting hurt on that knee-on-knee but poor leads rookie though, mama is in the house let’s just focus on that. f***ing hate HNIC

They pretty much ignored Reeves going after Cousins after he was clearly injured. If it was the other way around, they'd be demonizing a Senator for doing that.

Who gets recalled for tomorrow's game? Real ones want Bongiovanni, but I think it will probably be Crookshank.
"Real ones"?

Jenik was disappointing in his last game here. He looked promising earlier but has gone downhill since then.

Time for Tyler Boucher to take the league by storm!

Edit: Is injured or was a healthy in Belleville. Neither of which bodes well for the Boucher breakthrough
I assume you mean ECHL!
