Someone I expect to make the Rangers---Rempe.
Someone with a very good shot at making the Rangers---Edstrom
Somewith with a decent shot at making the Rangers---Othmann, Berard
Long shot at making the Rangers---Sykora, Mackey, Mancini
Expectations---two forwards at best unless there are injuries to regular roster players.
Why Rempe and Edstrom over others?---we've already seen that they can hang as NHL players and they'll easily slot in as 4th liners/depth forwards.
Panarin, Trocheck, Lafreniere---Zibanejad, Smith, Kreider----Chytil, Kakko, Cuylle, Vesey are all making the team. Carrick and Brodzinski are depth guys who can be beat out though it won't be that easy and if Berard or Othmann make the team they're not very likely at all going into the top 6---not unless there are multiple injuries anyway. The Rangers are too deep for that and 49 (Othmann), 48 (Berard) point seasons in the AHL are very good for first year players but those numbers are still AHL numbers....not NHL numbers. Cuylle got 50 in his AHL season the year before and 21 in the NHL last year and with his size and strength and physicality and a rounded two way game he slotted onto the Rangers easily. He brought other things besides an ability to put up points in the AHL.
Also don't be surprised if the Rangers bring a vet along as a tryout....that could be a forward or a D.
The D---Fox paired with Lindgren/Miller? Schneider/Trouba paired with Miller/Lindgren? Trouba/Schnieder paired with Jones? Ruhwedel fighting it out with Harper, Mackey and Mancini for 7D. Do the Rangers make a move before or during training camp to bring someone else in? They don't seem convinced that Jones is an everyday player.
Anyway that's how I would analyze things going into training camp. That said.....sometimes players do take leaps forward so all that remains to be seen but there's no way of really predicting who's going to do that or even thinking anyone will make that great a leap. First year pros we can pretty much count out for that. They're getting their feet wet.
